Re: Big Ten > NCHC
Confidence is why they have ELEVEN come from behind wins this season, which I have to imagine is a record or dang close to it. Two of their three ties were also comebacks. They are 9-3-1 when the other team scores first. All this means that even if you get a lead, the Huskies will still beat or tie you 76.5% of the time. That's insane to me.
I've watch both teams a bunch this season. I think the Huskies have a more aggressive forecheck. They gamble more often in the neutral and offensive zones and the gambles are paying off. I think the reason it looks different is that the Huskies will often have three guys below the dots when the Gophers might only have two. When they gain control of the puck, they trust their points to hold the zone rather than forcing it low over and over. Both teams have good individual skill, but I think the Huskies trust each other more and have been playing this whole season with a grudge and a ton of confidence.Since both the Gophers and the Huskies play their home games "on way too big ice" why is it that when you watch SCSU it's "different hockey"? I'm sure your answer will be something along the lines of, "because they're just better at it, and they are more skilled" (which by the way I wouldn't argue with) but what does SCSU do differently on "the way too big ice" that the Gophers could learn from? Especially with the all-important playoff series with Michigan looming?
