Big Ten > NCHC

Re: Big Ten > NCHC

Until the Big Ten wins one no one will take them seriously saying they're better than the NCHC. Especially if the NC keeps winning them. Sorry but that's how it is.

Watch NCHC games and the hockey is just better on most occasions. Obviously I watch every Gopher game and whenever I watch SCSU it's different hockey, even against a team like CC.

Of course that is probably skewed by not great gopher teams lately on way too big ice.

Then you simply don't understand what a better conference is. You understand what a better team is, and that's about it.

Best of seven series with 1st place VS 1st place, 2nd VS 2nd, and so on. NCHC wins that 5 series to 2 or maybe a close 4 to 3.

Re: Big Ten > NCHC

So Brent what you are saying is the B1G bottom feeder can beat the NCHC bottom feeder so the B1G is a better conference? The NCHC has 3 of the top 6 teams in the Pairwise and the best the B1G has is 7th. Doesn't quite add up for me.

Since both the Gophers and the Huskies play their home games "on way too big ice" why is it that when you watch SCSU it's "different hockey"? I'm sure your answer will be something along the lines of, "because they're just better at it, and they are more skilled" (which by the way I wouldn't argue with) but what does SCSU do differently on "the way too big ice" that the Gophers could learn from? Especially with the all-important playoff series with Michigan looming?

You said it yourself they are better at hockey... Didn't even realize they also play on Olympic cuz the speed of the game is so much faster in their games.

Until the Big Ten wins one no one will take them seriously....

No one should give a s**t what fans of another conference thinks. It's all fodder anyway.

I think the NCHC is probably the stronger conference right now but it's not light years and at the end of the day who cares? I didn't care about the stupid arguments back in the day when WCHA fans were arguing it was the best conference and it's just as meaningless now. If the Gophers can't get into the tournament it won't make me feel any better about the season if OSU were to win the whole thing.

Pretty much how I feel about it. The rising tide floats all boats thing. Besides, how can you not agree with Slap?

This year, and not saying they are better teams or not, but B1G is just beating up on each other in conference games. No one knows what to expect in a conference series. Kind of skews it a little. I'd say the top teams are NCHC, but from top to bottom, as a whole conference, I'd say B1G is better overall. I think our worst team could easily beat your worst team, for example. Your best team would probably beat our best team, on the flipside.
Absolutely preposterous. There are 3 NCHC teams higher than the highest B1G team. If you think Michigan State beats UNO? Have at it. So your three worst teams have higher RPI than our three worst. Hang your hat on that.

Idk... Omaha is pretty terrible. And despite it being nearly meaningless aside from possibly costing UMD a 1 seed, I would have been quite disappointed had they dropped a game to Miami this weekend. I thought his point was fairly valid, but the old WCHA always had cellar dwellers like UAA, Tech and even UMD yet people had no problem calling it the best. Hope UMD can hold on to a #1 seed for the sole purpose of not having a possible matchup with SCSU until at least the FF if applicable.

I’d like to see WMU win the NCHC championship—they’ve had plenty of almost-good enough seasons but always seem to fall just short

There it is, the dumbest thing I’ll read this week.
I’m sorry I mis-spoke; B1G almost had five teams in, not six.

Re: Big Ten > NCHC

All that matters is that we’re both better than those coastie ******** to the east. Eat it, college hockey podcasters.

Literally: Past two seasons, we’ve been 1 and 2 in the intraconference records department.

I'll go back to this comment since it seemed to start it. I'll wholeheartedly disagree with you, respectfully of course. I think if you played 5 games, a Miami/Michigan State series could go either way. On the flip side, I think Miami has a much better chance at beating OSU than Michigan State has beating SCSU. UMD played Miami this past weekend, there's definitely talent there. They unfortunately have to play the majority of their games in the most difficult conference in the country, so they'll naturally fall towards the bottom but be hoisted up by SOS.

Hustle, execution, and shooting talent.

Re: Big Ten > NCHC

The top of the NCHC is so much better than the top of B1G that the bottom half has to be worlds better than the NCHC's bottom and I think they're closer than you think. UNO isn't awful, they're 9-20-3 bc they're an ok team, have played the 2nd toughest schedule in the nation. They also freakishly didn't play in many close games; they were Jekyll and Hyde either winning or losing big, losing more often than not. But they did split the four game season series with Arizona State and Western Michigan and I think they're better than non NCHC fans give them credit for, same with Miami, same with CC.

Obviously we'll never know but I think if Miami, Omaha and Colorado College each played in a twelve game series with Wisconsin, Michigan State and Penn State/Michigan/Minnesota, I know the numbers may not say it but I think those series would be closer than you think. However I think if St. Cloud, Duluth, Denver, Western and North Dakota all got a home and away series vs. Ohio State, Notre Dame and PSU/Mich/MN I think it would be much more lopsided. And THAT by definition is which conference is better.
