Big Ten Hockey 2016-2017

Re: Big Ten Hockey 2016-2017

Funny how people don't remember or know somethings. In addition to MSU's CCHA success, from 1984 to 2012, the CCHA won eight NC's. BGSU in 1984. MSU in 1986/2007. UM 1996/98. LSSU 1988, 92, 94. And nine runner up spots. The vaunted WCHA won ten With seven runner ups. Only two more.
Why skip the first two years of the the old WCHA without MSU and Michigan, two years in which a WCHA team won the championship?

By my count the WCHA also had 13 more appearances (106-93), at least six more F4 appearances (36-30). I also have it as 18 and 15 championship appearances (three more titles and the same number of runner ups). But then again, I really think that a single-elimination tournament is not a great way to prove the best. It's about the entire season. KRACH would probably be a better indicator.

Re: Big Ten Hockey 2016-2017

I made some inquiries today and found out the conference's position on the locations for playoffs next year.
Given the fact that some of the schools have long term contracts to host high school events in the campus facilities the conference is OK with that and will not force any action to the contrary.
If Nationwide Arena, the Blue Jackets home ice isn't available for us if there comes a conflict here at Ohio State get ready for nostalgia being back in the old barn and the same goes for Wisconsin!!

Re: Big Ten Hockey 2016-2017

Question for everyone: For each Big Ten team, who is their biggest rival, right now?

I'll start out by stating the obvious:
Minnesota = Wisconsin

(and pretty sure Wisconsin fans feel the same about Minnesota)

With a nod towards a team with a ton of history and success, I concur. I respect the H-E-double hockey sticks out of that program across the river and what they have accomplished and represent......which is why it feels so good when we can beat them.

Let's Go RED!

IF it happens at Wisco we'll be playing in the former Montreal Forum of College Hockey* which seats 8500+ for hockey. It's far from ideal, but it's larger than 90% of D1 rinks and it's adequate. And last time it was pretty fun for some to be back at the ol' Coli where so many great Badger teams ruled. But certainly not for everyone.

But that's quite a bit of a different kettle of fish than OSU playing in an 800 seat rink, so I'm not too sure you should lump us in together with the same problem.

As far as it being the same problem I was quoting one of your guys, KiMiGo, from what they said.
What I think would be hilarious is if Ohio State was to host the title game and no other venues were available and they had to have it in the 800 seat barn!
Lets see how the B1G feels about THAT being broadcast for everyone in the country to see how great our conference is on the B1G Network! LOL!!

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

I coach. I always tell our kids, "you better respect your opponent, but that sure as "heck" doesn't mean you have to like them". Believe me, no one hates Minny more than me, but I do respect the program.

It is the same general situation in that both teams play in a multipurpose building and may be pushed to another location by other scheduling conflicts with the main facility.

Yes, Wisconsin has a pretty decent "Plan B" compared to what most other schools would have available. Heck, it was our "Plan A" until about 20 years ago. Wow, the Kohl Center has been open for almost 20 years??? I feel old now...

Re: Big Ten Hockey 2016-2017

How many of you guys have purchased BTN Plus?

I just can't see myself spending 80-115 bucks for non-revenue sports with low production value, especially when non-con away games aren't even on there. Plus it seems like at least one game a series is on TV anyway. Sucks for weekends like this where both are on BTN Plus, but it's not the worst thing.

The monthly school pass wouldn't be a terrible option ($10), but not really worth it with the state of MSU's program.

Re: Big Ten Hockey 2016-2017

So the Minnesota- Michigan game is on ESPNNews right now and the best I can say that they're trying. They showed the potential top 16 for the upcoming NCAA playoffs..based on the USCHO.com poll.

Re: Big Ten Hockey 2016-2017

Yeah, but 90% of intermission was basketball, other sports, and commercials. They aren't trying.

Big Ten blows them out of the water.
