Biden v Dump 1: If not now, when? If not us, who?

What’s a platform?

You know how to fix this? Pass a bill that ends subsidies and put it on Biden’s desk. Hell, just get it on committee and raise shit. My god, the people bitching about this are so stuck in the past.

Use the media as a bludgeon not a Kleenex

So the network that made Donald what he is today "accidentally" tweets out BS about AOC endorsing Bernie to make it seem like there is a divide (even though she already endorsed Biden) then 3 hours later you admit your mistake and delete the tweet to stop it from spreading (too late) but then put a screen shot of the tweet you deleted in your retraction...which in turn fucking spreads it.

Hey NBC just admit you want to make things worse...at least that would be honest. We all know you cant stand the fact Biden ran away with the nom because it robbed you of all the "Dems in Dissaray" stories.

Well that's troubling. Why is she still endorsing Bernie?

;)

At first when I heard her speech live I looked up and said, "Wait, what?" And then about a microsecond later I remembered this was the same thing that happens in virtually every convention. NBC News shouldn't be as stupid as me for even a microsecond. That's the kind of posting that should earn someone an unpaid vacation.

On the actual tweet itself, deleting and screenshotting is a fairly normal procedure on Twitter. Just deleting or not deleting is bad for the reasons you pointed out. But I don't think screenshotting with an explanation is bad. The cat is out of the bag. However, I do think it would be nice if they had redlined their own screenshot before posting it.

It is common unless the tweet is full on wrong, which this one was. NBC didnt make a typo or use the wrong picture, then you put it up as a comparison. (like a side by side) NBC gave some half azzed explanation (with no apology) then literally says "We wanted to stop the spread" while spreading it again. They dont even correct it until the second tweet in the series. If you are going to post a screenshot you should AT THE VERY LEAST post the retraction and correction first THEN in the second tweet 3/4 of the people will never read you say "for the record, here is the tweet we deleted". They did it backwards and that was by design.

And again, they didnt actually apologize...they didnt even admit they got it wrong. (which they fucking did) They said they should have included more information...no dickheads you should have not been academically dishonest. You lied, you tried to make things worse than they are, you got called out for it because you arent Faux so the viewers actually know the truth, and then you backpeddled kind of.

The MN Daily wouldnt have made this mistake (the NYTimes would have...though they would have been more malicious ;) ) and if by some chance they had they would have fixed it way better and a lot faster. NBC did this crap on purpose.

geezer,

the only way to do emoticons is to go back to like 1996 style. (i.e. include the nose) ;-) :-) :-o

Donnie also suing three Iowa counties who are trying to make voting by mail easier.

your platform must be great when you require people to not vote

Not a good couple days for Iowa...they also found out their numbers for COVID are wrong because of some reporting issue. It should be higher I guess. Oh and of course the issue in Ames with the parties.

If Dump taught us one lesson it's that you either give the media something to run every day, thus partly controlling it, or you don't and then what they run could destroy you.

Because they are going to run something. Like the Boston and New York sports page, if there is no controversy they will invent one. So give them some stupid porn every day to keep the morons' eyes glued.

Not just wrong but wrong in the worst possible way. Was it you who posted that?

Their positives from people who had originally tested negative were dated to the original negative date. So there was no unique database key for each test, just a patient-date. So when a positive came back, it was tied to the first date but NOT reported because they weren't retroactively recalculating past dates, just the current. It's not a mistake I would expect a competent database administrator to make, but it does happen.

Edit: I didn't have that quite right. From AP:
Iowa’s overall number of more than 52,600 who have tested positive since March is not affected — a per capita rate that is 17th highest among states and the highest in the Midwest, according to Johns Hopkins University. But the current curve looks flatter than it should and the recent rates of positive tests are lower than they should be, Jones said.

Edit 2: Holy god... That wasn't the worst part of the article.
School districts are relying on a 14-day positivity rate calculated by the state to determine whether they should reopen classrooms to students and teachers. Gov. Kim Reynolds has ordered schools to provide at least 50% in-person instruction as long as the local positivity rate is below 15% — a threshold three to five times higher than many public health experts say is safe. So far, only a handful of districts meet that threshold.

15% That's... criminal. Even I know that's a huge fucking number.

They're murderers. Why would you expect any different?

These thugs are in this to win it. They do not care who is harmed. What started as a simple ploy to steal all the wealth of the middle class for the rich in 1980 has inevitably morphed into a fascist racial movement to end democracy and establish a formal apartheid state. This is how it happens. It's not magic. It doesn't depend on paranormal forces or epic villains like Hitler. It's just a million little decisions by small, cowardly, craven, corrupt people looking out for themselves and not caring about anyone else.

The seed of fascism is always at the heart of conservatism. It works its way through from idea to reality through inequality and bigotry, and finally comes to power through sheer partisan politics. And now we're here, at the inflection point.

Well I hope we learned lessons from the aftermath of the Civil War. In many ways the 400,000 or so who gave their lives fighting it were let down by subsequent generations who allowed the evils to continue, whether through Jim Crow, the white supremacist organizations that thrived, or that labor is still exploited in 2020. I hope when we win the next Civil War we will make sure the defeated STAY defeated.
