Biden v Dump 1: If not now, when? If not us, who?

Warren. It can't be Warren.

It's gonna be Harris. Gives us the demo but without even a hint of liberalism. Harris is a less pretty Obama.

Works for me. Gotta win before anything else.

Not even close. Obama went to Harvard law and got a job at a top firm. Harris went to some third tier school and got a job in the AD’s office. Picking Harris would be a big boost for Trump.

Why do people discount Harris’ performance in the primaries so much? I really, really, really hope Biden goes with Rice.

Warren is too white. Bottoms lacks federal experience, but Georgia has double the number of black residents vs. Florida and is the third youngest state in the country as people under 30 keep moving to the Atlanta metro. Kemp and the GOP will work mercilessly to disenfranchise voters though, just like in 2018, and so will DeSantis in FL.

Harris is the boring, safe pick.

I dont think it will be Harris...but seeing as she has zero issue calling out racists (the only blip she made in the Primaries was doing so) it would be fun as hell to watch her destroy Mike Pence in a debate. I got a feeling though she wont be the pick.

This has been reported in various outlets frequently over the last couple of months at least. With the horrible outbreaks we are also now seeing in half the states in the country it isn't going to suddenly get easier to register voters.

Voter Registrations Are Way, Way Down During The Pandemic

Pandemic Puts A Crimp On Voter Registration, Potentially Altering Electorate

US voter registration plummets during coronavirus pandemic, challenging both parties

? First-Time Voters Face Registration Obstacles

I think the ONLY arrow in the quiver for republicans is to cheat. Absent cheating I think Biden might win in a landslide somewhere between 1984 and 1988. But until the votes are counted and the stool sample that sits in the White House now is washed away and the grounds disinfected we can't take anything for granted. I want to see the electoral equivalent to a 54-0 blowout. I want republicans on the ground and I want to stomp their kidneys and make them pee blood -- in an electoral sense.

But havent the actual voter totals been pretty consistent with 2018? (they seemed to be based on absentees in WI and Kentucky so far) That doesnt seem to add up? I admit I havent followed that as much as I have other efforts the past couple weeks.

As for your "landslide" that seems to be what people close to Trump are saying. Yes I Know This is Politico but I mean even Trump isnt denying anymore he might lose. That rally really shook up the White House and there isnt a poll out there that is trending the right way. I am not even sure a war would be enough to deflect right now. Biden doesnt even have to speak because Trump just keeps making mistakes at every turn. It is almost pathological...and every day that COVID is still a thing and cops are doing violent and racist stuff is one more day where he looks like an out of control buffoon who is so far out of his element that everyone is screwed.

A lot is going to happen between now and November and there is no doubt they will do everything they can to steal it. But unlike with Hillary where we all assumed people would make the right decision now there is so much crap upsetting everyone because of what is going on that the mood is different. It is easy to be complacent when nothing is really happening but when a pandemic is killing people and social unrest is causing chaos it is a whole different ballgame.

I don't know about the exact vote totals, but the primaries have always been for the diehards, people who will walk through hell in a gasoline suit to vote for their candidate. More people vote in the general election than in the primaries. I would guess Clinton got twice as many votes in November as both she and Sanders got throughout the primary, but I could be off about that. People who vote in primaries are ones who would definitely be making sure they are registered. As important and fascinating as I find politics to be I don't vote in primaries, and despite living in this state for 8 months now, I only just turned in my voter registration form on Friday. As well, there were a lot of primaries BEFORE the coronavirus shutdowns, and a whole bunch of people registered already. We will have to wait and see what happens over the next few months. As I wondered in my original post on the topic, who is this hitting more, Rs or Ds? Possibly neither, which means while the vote totals might be down, the percentages may not be affected. The only thing certain, as noted in a number of articles, is that right now, voter registration is lagging from what would normally be expected in a general election year.

I mean ideologically.

Harris is fine, but aspirationally she's a step if not backwards then at best in place. At a time when the Third Way myth has disintegrated and radical liberalism / socialism / whatever comes nextism is being acknowledged by thinking people as the way to restore American values, Harris is a younger Biden: a highly ambitious pol who is primarily interested in cementing back the old Democratic establishment received from Clinton and tweaked by Obama. She is not receptive to radical removal of all the rightwing bullsh-t of the past half century.

Put it this way, Drew. I love you dude, but a candidate who is acceptable to you is not the right candidate for now. The cul de sac that began even before Reagan of reigning in welfare and social investment -- a dead end that even Jimmy Carter was dancing down -- leads inevitably to the death spiral of the current emergency. 2020 is what happens when you weaken the government, a progressive force dedicated to the best interests of all citizens, and strengthen the private sector, a regressive force dedicated to the best interests of the richest few.

The lunatic right may have engineered the descent into fascism, but the compromising left allowed it. They were the "good men who did nothing while the evil men triumphed." And Harris is a smoothly machine-tooled product of that Democratic establishment. She doesn't get it. Her friends are in Georgetown, Park Slope, and Marin. She isn't going to gore their ox, and that's what we need to recover.

I’ll put it to you a different way, why would you pick Harris over Rice? I think Rice brings a lot more to the table.

New poll shows Dump 13 points down.

That's a new Rasmussen poll.

Correcting for house effects, that's 19 points down.

Reagan beat Mondale by 18 points.
