Re: BGSU @ NMU, Jan 15/16: Oh, yeah, we have these games, too...
To say that ties with Michigan Tech and Bowling Green have no impact on NMU's positioning in the Pairwise Rankings is incorrect. Had NMU won those games they would factor into the common opponent category. In both cases an actual win would have bettered their overall win percentage in this category. Thus, possibly shifting a point over depending on their pairwise opponents own winning percentage against like teams.
I'm with Coach Kyle in not being happy coming out of the last three games with only 1 victory and 2 ties. 1-0-2 against teams with a combined record of 6-38-4 isn't something to be thrilled or rave about. While I do appreciate NMU coming back to tie Saturday's game they never should have put themselves into that position.
I was glad to hear Walt's post game comments regarding the need to win for NCAA purposes. That ties won't cut it. The conference stuff will shake out however it may but Walt has his eye on a bigger picture and I was happy to hear that.
Hopefully the winning returns this weekend in Omaha. It will be tough without a doubt. We will see what NMU is made of. I think they are up to the task.
