Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

Not quite true, according to USCHO stats. http://www.uscho.com/stats/attendance/division-i-men/2016-2017/
:)

Holy Cross has 153%, Mercyhurst 145.5%, RIT 125.1%, Penn State 102.4%, and then Bentley at 100%.

Holy Cross, Mercyhurst, and RIT come from playing home games at a different Arena (DCU, Erie Insurance Arena, Blue Cross).

If 2000 people fit into an arena with a capacity of 1500, then it's capacity is 2000, not 1500. It's like my '76 Volvo station wagon in high school, with seating capacity of 5. I crammed 10 into it plenty of times.

Make Math Great Again!

I was able to see only the Saturday night game but from what I saw, your guys clearly deserve a tip of the Husky helmet. Considering the disparity between the two teams in terms of facilities and other resources, I thought Bentley looked well-organized and well-coached, and they clearly didn't pack it in when the eventual outcome was no longer in doubt. All the best to your guys the rest of the way. (BTW, I think I'd break out in hives in the event NU (not NEU) and Bentley wound up in the same regionals.)
I'll be happy to second Split-N's comments. You played a solid game on Friday night. Saturday night had to be our turn. AFAIK we'll do this again next year. Considering that your coaching staff had just 12 scholarships and the lovely JAR to recruit to, I will be very interested to see where the team is in 2-3 years. Assuming the school gives them the full 18 scholarships and a new rink...
BTW the JAR is listed as 200' x 85'. Really???

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

Anyone heading out to Colorado for Falcons vs Falcons this weekend?

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

I'd love to see this series played in Jan/Feb, during ski season. I would definitely make that trip.

Indeed, and the series until recently was played over semester break, usually on the two evenings before New Year's Eve. Not even sure if the fall aspen foliage is still around out there this weekend.

Nice dominating 6-1 win by Bentley tonight for split on weekend at altitude in the Springs. Appears that there was a shake up in the lines?

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

Anytime you leave the Springs with a split is a victory.

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

Pretty solid road trip for the Falcons this weekend. I wasn't able to watch much of the first game, but I watched the boys play outstanding on Saturday night. The score and shots suggest we didn't get destroyed on Friday, but the boys probably didn't play their best. Also guessing that Starrett had a great night. Starrett is a really talented goalie, putting up 4 against him on Saturday was a real feat and to be honest it could've been much more.
Here's some comments from AF coach Serratore regarding Saturday night:
“They made a statement on the first shift of the game,” head coach Frank Serratore said. “From the first shift of the game, they were on their toes. Much of the evening, it was men among boys and in a lot of ways they imposed their will on us. Every time there was a moment that a team needed the next goal, they got it. That is a darn good team. They were on a mission. I’m not saying we didn’t show up, they were just that strong."

This is a REAL team. Everybody showed up Saturday night; French, Schmidt, Murph, Mac, and all the freshman continue to impress. Desbiens is looking like a scoring machine just like he was in the BCHL, and one guy that really stands out to me is Matt Riggleman. The latest addition to the roster this year, he is a dynamic player and is just all over the ice. When he's out there we always seem to be in the offensive zone and he is contributing in every way. The only piece of our game that seems to need work is just passing inside the defensive zone, leading to a lot of turnovers. When we collect the puck down by Argue we seem to just get a little sloppy with our passing. Other than that, couldn't be happier with the play of this team.

Watch out, Atlantic Hockey.

Maybe need to arrive at the JAR early to get a seat on Friday night.

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

I think breaking up the Desbiens-French-Schmidt line is the right call for now to add more balance to the lineup. Desbiens I think is good enough where he be the focal point of a line, while I think Schmidt is more a complimentary guy. A pretty good player, but I think he's more successful when he's paired with a guy like French who draws most of the attention. Ahlgren-French-Schmidt could be a good top line, with Desbiens anchoring the 2nd line, maybe with McDonald and Kauppila playing center.

Also interesting that Riggleman got a look on the top line on Saturday. Of all the freshman forwards, he seemed to be the least heralded with only one season in the USHL, but the coaches must see something in him. While a guy like Gorowsky put up huge numbers in the NAHL last season and has only played in two games so far.

Welcome to the forum! Glad to see another dedicated Bentley Hockey fan on here. I agree that Desbiens can probably handle/anchor his own line, but I think at least for the beginning of the season I'd like to see him on a line with a guy like French just to get into the swing of things. I think the junior line of McDonald-McMurphy-Schmidt (which they used Saturday and 2 years ago when Murph was healthy) should be a staple, as they seem to mesh really well together. With regards to Riggleman, everything I've seen from him so far justifies him getting a top line spot. He's quick, aggressive, and great with the puck. Haven't seen much of his shooting ability, but putting him on a line with guys like French or Desbiens who can put the puck in time and time again is definitely something I look forward to.

That said, these are my predictions for the lines this weekend:

Desbiens-French-Riggleman
McDonald-McMurphy-Schmidt
Balsamo-Kauppila-Deresky
Ahlgren-Callin-Gorowsky

Solovyev-Orr
Jago-Brassard
Berry-Buchanan

The D-pairings are quite tricky, and Soder has messed around with them a good amount. Problem is, we have 5 lefties and 3 righties... tough to make it work.

You can always sit on the Tigers side but not sure how much room will be available there either! :D

Thanks for invite, blazer. But, I usually stand up next to the glass; where else can you do that in a Div 1 hockey venue? :)

The JAR could be quite packed this weekend, I'd recommend contacting Athletics about tickets. They're already giving them out to students in advance and they are going quickly.

My favorite place too, by the entrance next to the goal judge who's playing pokey man go on his phone! You can do the same at Holy Cross and a few other smaller venues

I'm walking up on Saturday night, hopefully a slower evening than the Friday but thanks for the warning!

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

Bad, BAD game. Glimmers of hope in the second period but other than that borderline embarrassing. Argue looked pretty good, but passing and defense were horrendous. Also, Alexey Solovyev started the game but came out after about 5 minutes and didn't return. Didn't see what happened, but hopefully he's not hurt.

I thought that RIT completely dominated until Bentley got their only goal about midway through the second, when things seemed to become more even with Bentley making some better passing plays, until they gave up the third goal midway through the third. I thought that both goalies played well, but Rotolo was not tested all that much. I did not see what happened to Solovyev, but I thought that his departure really hurt Bentley's ability to get the puck out of its zone for extensive periods, leading to lots of icing calls and face offs in their own zone when they were gassed. I think that the AHC coaches ranked RIT #1 for some good reasons from what I saw tonight. The Tigers have size and speed, an excellent blue line, and a fine goalie. I expect that they will remain on top of the AHC for most if not this entire season.

Game was much closer than that final score. RIT radio guys had your radio guy on between first and second periods. Our radio guys had lots of good things to say about your goalie, he made some great saves last night. I think tonight will be another close contest with the outcome not decided until late. .

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

Any chance I can get a ticket if I walk up tonight?
Really been hoping to get out to a gam at the JAR
