Bentley University Hockey 2015-2016: The Quest for 60-Minute Hockey

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2015-2016: The Quest for 60-Minute Hockey

I didn't watch, so I'm just speculating here, but..... looks like the Falcons played two solid periods of hockey.

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2015-2016: The Quest for 60-Minute Hockey

Bentley played a great two periods of hockey. Kept pace. Merrimack missed a few chances and it felt like momentum really swung Bentley's way with that late second period goal.

Wheels fell off for them in the third. Lots of defensive turnovers, and they kept giving up the easy centering pass from behind their net.

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2015-2016: The Quest for 60-Minute Hockey

We had a VERY bad 10 minutes tonight. Very April-Bentley-esque

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2015-2016: The Quest for 60-Minute Hockey

Nice to have the college games in Brooklyn! On the downside, Falcons can't continue to play soft D against good teams. Not sure why the 2 big freshmen D are sitting. Injuries maybe. Merrimack could be a very different story.

Was not too hard to call. 2 decent periods yes, but the D zone is critical. Atlantic hockey in general needs to shut down these big fast teams from the quick bursts of offense. Falcons (as well as others) have the firepower, use it. grinding hockey is fine, but at some point you need to use size and skill. Innocent bystander, but I would really like to see the Atlantic succeed. RMU is about the closest to figuring this out.

Never thought I'd live to see the day that Merrimack would be considered one of "these big fast teams."

Bentley played a great two periods, I think it's tough to hang with fast teams for 60 minutes. Believe me, we as MC fans have seen it all too often against BC. Someone have stats on MC vs BC in the third period alone? I'd be interested to see.

I hope Atlantic improves, RIT is usually pretty tough competition, no? Seems like every time I look up they're poised for a post season run, or at least hanging around. Hey, at least you don't have to put up with horrific hockey east reffs, what a joy it was to watch a game where the zebras didn't affect the outcome.

Great point, what maybe 3 penalties all night. Part of the Falcons downfall, no PP to speak of. Had to play a 5 on 5 game. tough to hang.

I was watching from the opposite end boards from where three of those four early third period goals appeared really soft, no? Agreed that the game was otherwise well played, despite the lobsided SOG in the first period.

Was impressed by what I saw in Bentley for stretches on the game. I thought Merrimack's depth was the difference in the game. Crowd was very good for a Wednesday night and kudos to the amount of students for showing up. I hope you guys get that rink that you were talking about because I really think nicer facilities would push you guys to another level. Good luck the rest of the season.

Nice to see Soderquist recognizes it. Going to assume some changes to be made.

"They played 60 minutes and we didn't, so that's why we lost 5-1," Soderquist said after his team slipped to 3-3-1 this year. "We got manhandled in the third period. They outmuscled us at the net front and we had guys who were standing next to guys, not covering them and picking up sticks."

Looking for some assistance, I'm an RPI fan coming out for the game on the 20th and just wondering how one would get tickets. Can't seem to find anything on the team website. Any help would be be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not to steal Bentley's thunder but as a past visitor to the JAR, you just walk up and buy your ticket from the person manning the table at the entrance. Bentley doesn't sell tickets to hockey online, or at least hat's the message I got when I asked your very same question a couple of years ago.

I'm coming for some games this winter so hopefully the process remains the same as there's no ticket fees, etc...

At the door. Enjoy the game.

Oh, and best be sure all your shots are up to date.

Or, the persons "womening" the table in the lobby. :) If you arrive a few minutes early, you probably can have any seat in the house, right on the red line, if you like, albiet looking through thick dark netting. Or, you can stand at rink level with your nose to the glass; where else in Div 1 can you do that, eh? Not bad for $7.

Thank you, I plan on driving out early Friday. Can't beat that price either.

Oh yeah, there was some "womening" in place for the Friday game. :p I think the best seat is actually standing behind the net by the main entrance. Nothing like seeing plays unfold over the length of the ice and having pucks flying at you every couple of seconds. Standing there also gives you quick access to the concession stand which may or may not be a selling point. You're right though, 7 bucks for 60 minutes of hockey is a great price!

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2015-2016: The Quest for 60-Minute Hockey

Tough 10 minutes in period 3 for Jayson Argue and the Falcons last week. Argue went into the game with a 0.952 SV% and 1.80 GAA and came out with a 0.938 SV% and 2.31 GAA. Bentley D-men and forwards need to help clear bodies and the puck away from the front of the net.

Bentley now 32nd in O with 2.71 GPG and 23rd in D with 2.57 goals given up per game; PP is 9 of 28, 32.14%, good for 4th in Div 1, and PK is 21 of 24, 87.5%, good for 18th in Div 1. So, special teams fine, but need to tighten things up with 5 on 5.

Lots of opportunity for redemption at Polisseni this weekend.

The big freshmen Dmen can't continue to be in the stands or 5 on 5 against good teams will remain a significant problem.

Too many shots, too many uncleared pucks, too many lost battles, too many opponents left uncovered in front of the net.

Spot on post; Bentley already given up over 40 SOG in only two periods, which is a recipe for losing. No goalie can be expected to win such games.
