Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

FYI to Millsy and other Beaver fans ... I just returned from the Gladiators year end banquet and among the team awards given out tonight was "Rookie of the Year" - it went to Matt Francis. A nice accomplishment for Frannie considering we had around 10 rookies who saw enough action to be considered, including two defensemen who made the ECHL All-Rookie team (and both went to the All-Star game).

Former Beaver Matt Climie has been called up to Dallas!

Been following that situation. I think he could work his way into the rotation for next season. I'm hoping he's not on the Tim Thomas college-to-NHL career path, because I think he's good enough for the bigs right now, rather than having to toil in Europe for a while.

Welcome to the WCHA!!
Please remember, the two most hated teams in the league are the Sue and Bucky Badger!!!

Must be from Gopheropolis.

Welcome Bemidji State. We will welcome you with open arms to Madison in December (unlike what we do to rodents).

It will be very interesting to see what happens with the goaltending.

Bakala coming off a good year, and SCSU-transfer Jase Weslosky maybe stepping up?

Weslosky has great experience in the WCHA, but who knows who Seratorre calls to the position!

I would have to think since the Beavers already have two good experienced goaltenders, Weslosky is going to have a hard time getting playing time....

3/4-5 Minnesota

Saving the best team for last I see. Gopher arrogance never dies.

Looks like a chance for BSU to rest some key players for the first round series as Minnesota prepares to go on the road to UND as the 11th seed.

Welcome Bemidji State. We will welcome you with open arms to Madison where you will accept two defeats in December (just like what we do to ugly rodents).

I agree. :)

Welcome to the lower half of the best conference in college hockey! :p

I'm not convinced it's a slam dunk by his quote from the article below. A team could up the stakes and he could be gone.

“As of now, I’m coming back to Bemidji State to complete my degree and play my final year of college hockey. Something very monumental would have to happen for that to change.

“I turned down some good offers from National Hockey League teams. It all came down to should I play in the NHL now, or come back to BSU and get my degree. Right now, I think it’s the best thing to come back.”

For some reason, I thought Read was a draftee.

I find hockey to be a little weird, where the teams can contact these free agents and entice them to leave school. I'm okay with the idea, I just find it strange.

That said, I'm glad for the Beavers program and Read himself. Except, of course, when the Beavs come to town in 10-11.

I thought I had heard or read somewhere that if he finishes his senior season, he could get a higher offer than if he signed after his junior year. It has something to do with the contract limits in the NHL Collective Bargining Agreement.

So if everything goes like it should, Read will play in the WCHA, open the BREC, lead the Beavers to a great season, complete his degree and then see the offers roll in.
