Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

With all of the talk about the tough WCHA "grind" it would be hilarious to see you guys come in and destroy all season long, and I am a Gopher fan.

The "and I am a Gopher fan" part doesn't add much since the beavers are going to smoke you if they destroy all season or get by at about .500

I cannot pen them in at 9-12. I just can't. I think maybe the pressure/grind might get to them later on in the season, and we'll see a bit of a swoon, so I'll guess around 7-9.

Of course, it seems like the past few years, as little as 4 points separates the 5-8 crowd.

ts: You sound rather Arrogant. Sure you aren't a Gopher fan? ;)

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

I talked to some people at Orlando Alamono's wedding this past weekend...they're still in a "evaluating" mode...short term memory tests, etc. to see what the extent of it was...then they'll think about "hockey" mode.

In short, no timetable yet.

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Was up in Bemidji for the high school reunion this weekend and must say the rink looks great from the outside. I was bummed they wouldn't even let cars in the parking lot, never mind offer tours for the returning Bemidji folks (would have been a great opportunity to drum up interest in the program). I guess they must be really feeling the crunch to get the building done by October.
I have a question for anyone in Bemidji. Has the high school program competed at all or produced any major players since the late George Pelawa? I would love to see the Lumberjacks back near relevance in MN high school hockey, and I'm hopeful the BREC can play a role in this.

Current d-man for the MSU Mavericks, Channing Boe. That's all that I know

Jared Echternach (Miami, and a teammate of Enrico Blasi), Matt DeMarchi (UMinn), Joe Motzko (SCSU and 1st Bemidjian to get his name on the Stanley Cup with Anaheim), Joe Fallon (UVM) and Jessie Echternach (Mercyhurst), plus Channing Boe (MSUM).

As to the question, have they competed? they made the section final back in 2000 (lost to Roseau). And won 22 games in 2001 (behind Joe Fallon who had something like a .926 sv% and a gaa of 1.06), but lost in the section semi's, again to Roseau. Last year, they finished at .500 after finishing above .500 the year before, which is a big improvement from recent memory. Last year ended with a 6ot  loss (in the second longest game in state history) in the section quarters to St. Cloud Tech.

Thanks for the recap, guys. Fallon had a very good career at UVM. Hopefully he gets a chance to crack an NHL roster one of these years.

I hope so too. He was traded from the Hawks to St. Louis at the deadline last year, which should be good for his career (the Hawks had Neimi, Huet plus Crawford at AHL Rockford all ahead of him. Now that Neimi is gone, Fallon might have view for the back-up, but still would have likely been at Rockford. With St. Louis, he will likely still be at Peoria, but will have a better chance at getting called up IMHO).

As to the BREC helping the 'Jacks - we'll see. The boys and girls will each play 3 games there this year, and 2 games each at the BCA, which is near the new high school. The rest of the games will be at Nymore Arena...

Fallon wasn't re-signed by the Blues this summer and signed with the San Antonio Rampage for an AHL deal. Depending on what the Coyotes do, they *could* sign him to an NHL deal if they need an emergency backup.

Worst case, Fallon plays in the CHL when Phoenix stocks San Antonio's cupboards with excess goalies. (SA doesn't have an ECHL affiliate)

BSU's official announcement on the Lakeland TV broadcasting:

http://www.bsubeavers.com/mhockey/news/103/2867/

An area blog on what this agreement means for BSU and northern Minnesota:

http://northsports.areavoices.com/2...t-news-for-hockey-fans-in-northern-minnesota/

I was disappointed when I heard earlier that they were going to air most games on Lakeland Plus. Living in the Alexandria area and having DirectTV, we have the Lakeland Primary Channel, but none of the others. But with all the storms this summer, I decided to buy a table top UHF antenna to pick up a couple of stations around here during the storms while the dish is out. Low and behold, we get all 6 Lakeland stations with that little antenna (along with the CBC and Hockey Night in Canada).

But I plan on being at most BSU home games, so hopefully the little antenna won't get much use this winter.

BSU is returning all but 3 players from last year's team that made it to the midwest regional, I think they will be ok in the WCHA.

Their SOS is going to double, so without the cupcakes, they are going to have a tough time.
