...I love how some college hockey fans love to knock something that promotes college hockey lol
But the GLI doesn't have the same field every year. The whole POINT is the tradition and history. Something permanent that endures. I'm sorry if people don't like the fact that it's "regional and provincial" and if you're not from here you don't care. So go start your own tournament and develop some history and tradition. Don't disparage ours.
The ECAC was originally formed as a confederation to make it easier for the Eastern Selection Committe to pick the two eastern teams to the NCAA. There was no league created master schedule; each school was in control of its own schedule. Any game played against another ECAC school counted as an ECAC game, which is why different teams had different numbers of league games played. This lasted through the 1978-79 season, the last which had all teams lumped together. All Beanpot games for those seasons were counted as ECAC games, the consolation game was important for league standings.Question for you all - prior to the formation of Hockey East when all four schools were in the ECAC, did these games count in the league standings unlike nowadays when they're considered OOC games?

if you live near moose, head over to his house. he's having a watch party
An older gentleman has the best seats in the house for opening night of the Beanpot. As he sits down, a young lady--possibly a young alumna--comes by and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat next to him.
"No," he says, "The seat is empty."
"This is incredible," said the young lady. "Who in their right mind would have a great seat like this for the Beanpot, the biggest sporting event in Boston, and not use it?"
The older gentleman says, wistfully, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first Beanpot we haven't been to together since we met as students back in the day."
"Oh," says she. "I'm so sorry to hear that. But couldn't you find someone else--a relative or friend, or even a neighbor--to come here with you?”
The old gent shakes his head and replies, "Nope, they're all at the wake."
And that, boys and girls, is why--win or lose--the Beanpot is something special.
here’s hoping for an elusive nu-hc final
I might actually stay for that game next week. It will be kinda historic.
