Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

I'll be honest and admit I had to look up the spelling of his last name but... Tenzing Norgay. Not that hard to remember when two people do it essentially at the same time.
He is still not as famous as Hillary.

..just don't say that to the billion plus people on the Indo -China /Nepal border where he is close to Superhuman status..
and a couple thousand people there can even say Hill-ary..
Get out of the bubble once in a while.. you dope! :)

Wow I did not know there were so many passionate Everest Experts in this thread (or maybe more accurate some really good googlers)
Also your post is very hard to understand. In the first line I am not sure what 'he' is referring to, this is called an ambiguous pronoun and should be avoided in writing. The second line is just flat out confusing. I feel as though you might be missing an only, but I have no clue what you were trying to say. I am not an Everest expert, so maybe that is why I don't get it.
Also I love how easy it was to derail this thread.

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

I took a look at the list of Beanpot Hall of Fame members in the program.
Here are two lists that should have some correlation:

BEANPOT CHAMPIONSHIPS

Boston University - 29
Boston College - 16
Harvard University - 10
Northeastern - 4

BEANPOT HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES

Northeastern - 14
Boston University - 14
Boston College - 13
Harvard University - 10
Boston Garden - 2

The Beanpot Hall of Fame is open to players, coaches and administrators.

But how can a school that has won 4 of 59 tournaments have as many inductees as a school that has won 29?

The selection committee may want to try and even the numbers out as much as possible. But here is one more chart:

BEANPOT CHAMPIONSHIPS TO HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES

Northeastern - +10
Harvard University - 0
Boston College - -3
Boston University - -15

First who cares?

Second is this akin to York only winning what 2 HE COYs?

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

After watching the games last night, Sux2BU is so overrated it's hilarious. If not for them sneaking Scott Clemmensen in to play goalie, they'd be staring at another fourth place finish and a long offseason.

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

The reason for the tiny crowd at TD Garden was because of the huge snowstorm.

Oh, wait...

I guess it's a sign of the times that the Beanpot isn't the 'must-attend' event it was years ago.

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

It's becoming rather predictable. An upset or two by HU and NU would juice this thing up again in a heartbeat. Until then.....

Just because you're right doesn't mean you're not an *****hole

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

And three hours later, BU will be the second.

Are you and him RPI fans? Why are you arguing over who will win the Beanpot?

Obviously, the people that put on the tournament. And the schools.

Or why bother having one!

Ya, for every great OT game, there's a complete and utter disaster that we saw yesterday.

There does not have to be a correlation between these two lists. And think that there should be does not make sense. Winning a championship is not a necessary or sufficient condition for being in a Hall of Fame. Meaning that if you win a championship you are not guaranteed to be in a hall of fame, and not winning a championship does not make you ineligible for the hall of fame. You can have one really good player but if the rest of your team sucks then you wont win the championship, but you should still be in the hall of fame. Like wise you can have a team full of decent players that are not quite hall of fame material but together can win championships.

We both went/go to RPI so yes we are fans of RPI, but I still support BC because I grew up watching them, I didn't go there because they did not have what I wanted to study. As for burgie, I am not sure why he started following BU, I think it was the result of a brain injury or something, I mean I don't know how else someone would willing choose to like BU.

Did BC cancel their classes in 'Logic'?

Here is a little numerology:
29 to 4.
16 to 4.
10 to 4.
Four can not have more ... of anything that is positive.

First off the post literally right above you I say that I go to RPI, so obviously I am dealing with a slightly illiterate person.
Secondly I have taken formal logic, and I know one class does not make me an expert, but you are not dealing in solely formal logic. Let me explain (I will try to do this as simply as possible so as not to confuse you):
Your argument when stated formally is of the form of Modus Ponens which in symbolic terms is:
If P, then Q.
P
Thus Q.
Which is a completely valid logical argument in formal logic. (By the way formal logic deals only in symbolic logic.) Being valid though says nothing about the truth of the argument. Truth is determined from informal logic by evaluating the truth of the premises and whether they follow each other. If we replace the Ps and Qs with your premises then we get:
If a team has more championships then they should have more Hall of Fame members.
BU has more championships then NU.
Thus BU should have more Hall of Fame members.
On the surface this argument seems true, when in fact it is not. In my last post I showed how the two premises where unrelated, thus you cannot say that one follows the other.
Also even simpler to show the stupidity of the argument in your most recent post:
4 cannot BE GREATER then anything then any of those other numbers, but something with 4 of one thing can have more of another thing. That's just common sense.
BOOM! You just got out trolled. :p :D

you're quickly approaching TimP's level

When you type something this funny you are supposed to put one of those smilie thingy's at the end of it.

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

I wouldn't say it's predictable but the tournament could definitely use NU actually doing something in it.

The year Harvard made the finals (2008) their group of fans was simply a couple of NU & BU students left over from the 5:00 game cheering against BC (what a sight to see). So their fans couldn't give 2 sh*ts if they're in it. We know NU's students would come out for a championship game (see: 2009 & 2011 -bestest fanz evah!). But it is also fun to see them walk away with their tail between their legs in their tshirt jerseys & Beat BC shirts.

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

Eh agreed with Slurpees. I'm not sold we're #1 (honestly this year there could be a case for about half a dozen teams).

Yup... and as evidence, 6 different teams all received at least one vote for first place in the poll (and I am surprised that BC did not get at least one of them too... so in my mind, really there should be 7). And truly, I'm not sold on us being #1 either, but maybe it's just a year with truly no dominant teams. Looking at the rankings, is it normal for most of the top 7 teams to have 6, 8, even 10 losses?!?!?

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

when was the last time the Beanpot didn't sell out? Monday night, 16,005 tickets sold out of 17,565
