Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

Question for the history buffs.... (that I dont feel like doing the research on):

In years where BU and BC do not meet each other in the opening round, how many times has it not been a BU/BC final?

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

Two god-awful hockey games last night. I guess you've got reason to be happy if your team won, but the guy who posted that he had to take his son to a Boy Scout dinner got it right last night. At least from an entertainment point of view.

60 mintues of trap hockey followed up by a total blowout.... i mean, what could be better than that?

And the spaghetti and meatballs were really good.

I saw the #1 team in the country last night and they were wearing gold. Scary talent differential from anyone else I've seen despite NU's ineptitude.

Sure they looked good, they were playing against a rotating cycle of five garbage cans on the ice. I was more impressed that the best goaltender on the ice last night was our guy. Milner was a bit shaky in the first and then didn't have to do much of anything for the rest of the night. If NU didn't have their sticks up their arse all night, they would've knocked home a bunch of those juicy loose pucks in front that eventually got cleared.

In some ways, that game is actually helpful for us in that it provides some excellent tape for our coaching staff to use as crystal clear examples of what not to do against BC, if our guys didn't already know. Specifically, NU walked right into trap BC sets at the blue line when they're on a PK that leads to a shortie 9 times out of 10. It got to the point where you could predict a BC shorthanded odd man rush 10 seconds before it actually happened.

Anybody else think Connolly actually tapped in that first goal? (Off of Nieto's wraparound?) I know the recap said off a Harvard skate, but the video highlights look different. Just wondering.

Eh agreed with Slurpees. I'm not sold we're #1 (honestly this year there could be a case for about half a dozen teams).

The offense was finally clicking which is nice. The powerplay still sucks. Milner was shaky (can he catch the puck?) but it's results oriented and he only allowed 1 goal.

I said to start the year BC is going to score a sh*t ton of SHGs especially when they play weaker teams and we've started to see it the past several weeks.

As for giving out tape, both teams know about each other so there are few surprises. BU knows that BC is going to play an extremely agressive PK and that hasn't changed in years.

I guess the main thing Parker could take is that BC now has 2 top lines settled that are tough to matchup against. Almeida-Arnold-Whitney & Kreider-Hayes-Sit

No. It looked like #6 for Harvard kicked it in accidentally and I thought it was pretty clear from the video replay board that that's what happened. But that's me.

I was surprised that they showed Kevin Gilroy's shot off the post before the video review. Aren't they not supposed to show replays till the review is over?

#1 or not, the ramping up has begun so I will reiterate mookie's statement in your thread (?) that I won't believe BC is going anywhere until the horn blows and your team has lost and done. Because from my perspective, that's not going to happen for a long time.

Since I just figured out how to do a screenshot from this computer, I'll practice on this, from the hockeyeastonline channel at YouTube:

DSPHK

The Harvard defender's leg is swinging around, so I guess a split-second after this screenshot his skate knocks it in.

(And for you youngsters watching at home: Connolly's right there in front of the net, stick on the ice. A good lesson!)

I know NU was missing two key forwards, but are they really all that worse than Harvard? Aren't they both around .500? Anyway, I freely admit NU was atrocious last night. Millan doesn't scare me...BC has gotten to him a handful of times over the years. Milner, however, does scare me. He's the best we got right now though...

I'm not ready to say the ramping up has begun. Yes, they've won three in a row and appear to have finally settled on Milner, but the modest win streak has come against two teams fighting just to make the Hockey East playoffs.

The point of my post wasn't that NU is a bad team, clearly they must have some level of talent if they compiled the profile of OOC wins they have, it was just that last night they were so bad that the previous post hooting and hollering about how they were the best team in the world is a bit off base. Sure, BU didn't look terribly awe-inspiring last night, they looked like their skates were stuck in the mud all night long. But Harvard played a significantly better game than NU, despite them probably being about the same talent-wise. NU just looked wholly unprepared, almost as if they hadn't ever seen any game tape on BC. And of course, Rawlings letting in two early laughers helped to deflate the rest of the team to a point where Alabama-Huntsville probably could've put up three or four on NU. That said, BC played a strong game for the most part, looked very matter of fact and determined, but I wouldn't call it all-world. Another effort from BU like they put out last night will not at all be sufficient next Monday. Arguing over who is/looked like they're #1 in February, or any time other than the second week of April, is really a waste of time.

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

Ya, I don't consider BC to be the best team in the country like I did last year. I view them as a bit of a wild card. All along my expectations for this year was simply making the NCAA tournament. After that, you never know what can happen. You could get a favorable location/opponent, etc.

19 of 40, but only twice in the past twelve opportunities (1995).

For what it's worth, in the semifinals, Harvard beat BC nine times and BU four times (winning the whole Beanpot each of those four times), while Northeastern beat BC four times and BU twice. (And, obviously, there has not been a year when both Northeastern and Harvard won their semifinal match-ups.)

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

At the end of the season, he's going to have the last laugh as he will have a Beanpot and will be laughing at both BC (for not winning the Beanpot) and Maine (for another few years of Whitehead), and the stigma of having the officials not in his back pocket will be gone (because this one time disproves it!). LONG LIVE THE KING!

Jack's really setting the bar high for his team! :D I hope he knows that the Beanpot is not the end of season. He should remember to save some money for the NCAA Tournament.

Also Congrats to Rawlings for being the second worst goalie ever to play at the Garden (behind Loungo of coarse). And congrats to the whole NU team for their milestone achievement. They will be the first team to get 30 finishes in any one of the 4 possible positions. They will also have the same amount of last place finishes as all the other teams combined. They must be so proud.

Finally Sucks to BU.

And three hours later, BU will be the second.

Possible but not probable. Also no one cares about the second person/team/group that does something, for example everyone knows Sir Edmund Hillary was the first person to reach the top of Everest, but does anyone know off the top of their head who the second person was? I doubt it.

I'll be honest and admit I had to look up the spelling of his last name but... Tenzing Norgay. Not that hard to remember when two people do it essentially at the same time.
