Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

One of the best college hockey games I've been to in a long time. What a treat.

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

from John Power's column in the Globe. I didn't realize this

"It was the ninth straight time the rivals have played a one-goal game in the Beanpot and the fifth time that they’d gone to overtime."

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

Congrats BC - you deserved that one, and look to be FF-bound once again. BU had their chances, but they can't compete with the talent level, other than in goal.

I agree with JD, it looked like Millan was a little off center on the GWG. He reached for the puck, but he couldn't get to it. Heck of a shot by Arnold, just like Kreider's earlier.

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

I suggest that anyone who doesn't appreciate college hockey to watch that overtime. That was as good a stretch of hockey as Ive seen at any level.

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

Beanpot is a great tourny- GLI gets stronger team but doesnt have the tradition

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

Late chiming in here and still in a malaise. As I expected, both Parker and York had their teams ready to go for this on. Great college hockey game where both teams had plenty of chances to finish it off. Through the 3rd period and the first part of OT, I really thought BU would be the ones hoisting the pot. But at the end of it all, to quote everyones favorite football coach.... "They made more plays than we did".

I have not watched much of Kreider this year... but man he seems NHL ready.

.

thanks......seemed to me that BU competed pretty well with that talent level. It was as close a game as you could have and they split the 4 games. Two pretty equal teams if you ask me........

One thing I think you have to admire about York's teams is how they generally play in OT. They don't play timid. They are out there to dictate the pace of the game, take it to the opponent and throw the kitchen sink at the goaltender. They don't always win, but he clearly gets his message across about how to approach an OT period. Make it happen, don't wait for it to happen.

EDIT: A big part of that is going with three lines and riding Cross and Dumoulin. Would have loved to see their TOI numbers.

York has been absurd in that building of late, let alone in OT.

18-3 starting in 2006-07 season, 7-0 in OT since the 2007 Beanpot

I thought BU was too jumpy, and as maybe JD said BC was more calm and businesslike. Way too many penalties, bad passes and odd man rushes. My favorite was when a 3 on 1 rush got broken up. Forgot who made the bad play on that one, but inexcusable in a big game just like the shorthanded goal (where admittedly the BC kid made a great shot but he never should have had the puck in the BU end).

Feel sorry for Millan. He deserved a better fate. At one point they were being outshot 25-10 and even that looked less than what was actually happening on the ice.

Having said all this, win the HE tournament and all's well. Still wondering if this team has the stones to go places this year.

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

BC sure did look loose to me, which is what you're looking for in a game like that. Loose, confident, yet under control. Cross deserves credit for breaking up those two 3-on-1 chances, but ya, not well executed by BU. Watching the replays of the GWG, I think Millan would like that one back. But, the way that was going in the OT...I think it was just.

Not to rub it in, but I laughed out loud when I saw this.

Re: Beanpot LX: All your Beanpots are belong to us

One thing that was very apparent last night, and has been a trend this year and last, stop it with all of these dam whistles for every little minute faceoff infraction! So much time is wasted during every game because some guy moved his skate, or two guys have their sticks intertwined, or some other ridiculous and irrelevant thing that prompts a whistle, and a waste of another 20 seconds. There must have been upwards of at least 10-15 minutes in total last night wasted solely on pre-faceoff whistles.

I think BU only pushed it to OT thanks to Millan. While the shot discrepancy improved over the course of the game, I thought BC still outnumbered BU significantly in Grade A scoring opportunities. Millan robbed BC many more times than Milner did BU.

Until two weeks ago, I would have agreed that these two teams are very close, but unfortunately, now I think BC has found their typical late season push, and BU is dealing with the downstream impacts of the two losses at center and a couple injuries on d. With Privitera back and Nicastro healthy, I'd say BU closes the gap somewhat, but BC is still the superior team in my book. Sure, with Millan in net, on any guven night, BU could win. But I like BC's chances much better at this point.
