Re: Beanpot 2010- Who's Got It?

I expected solid goaltending at the Husky end (and there was plenty of it!), but I was skeptical about how the freshman netminder for the Crimson might hold up. I am skeptical no more! Ms. Bellamy played fantastic tonight, especially fulfilling the role of being her team's most important penalty killer. Northeastern's best chances came roughly mid third period during a 4 on 3, which they had for nearly a full two minutes but Bellamy et al weathered the storm and Harvard went on to win.

Sounds like the fans got their money's worth tonight, with a very close 1-0 final, following a 1-1 tie in the earlier consolation game.

Congrats to Harvard's freshman goalie for stepping up to earn the shutout win. Those were really big shoes/skates to fill.

:(

I'll start by saying congrats to Harvard. They outplayed us most of the game and were definitely deserving champs.

We kept up with Harvard better than I expected (even though I voted for NU in the poll!) but that 2nd period killed us- not just the goal, but it was total Harvard domination that period. By the time NU mustered any kind of sustained pressure it was too little too late. I will say though that I'm glad NU came out charging in the 3rd. We didn't give up and perhaps if we'd generated that pressure a little earlier on then maybe a goal would have come. Who knows. But it's not a good sign when your goalie sees more shots in one game than the other goalie saw in two (not a good recipe for success for NU!).

Oh well. Congrats to Harvard. Wished it had turned out differently- especially for NU seniors, but that's the way it goes. Tough pill to swallow for sure.

Those seniors shouldn't hang their heads; this game could have gone the other way with a few bounces. I remember at least two times that Bellamy was as lucky as she was otherwise good!

The same could have been said of the NU Goalie as well! Harvard had so many chances.

We predicted parity and boy, did we get it

Anybody know the record for close scores in a Beanpot? A one-goal final and two overtime ties? If this had been played on four different weekends, would there have been four different results?
