BC Women's Hockey '17-'18: Olympic Year Titles Are Just As Sweet

Re: BC Women's Hockey '17-'18: Olympic Year Titles Are Just As Sweet

Thanks -- idk about crappy goaltending... Crappy defense yes lol

The thing this style of game recap is that it makes the goalies look bad, since it's every goal they allow. But Burt stopped a handful of breakaways and odd-player rushes. She was The biggest reason we won.

One thing about showing goal highlights, the goalie never stops the puck! It’s too often a thankless position to play and your positive comments on Burt’s play are refreshing.

Burt was unbelieveable in a lot of instances in this game. Too bad you did not include some of her highlight reel saves, especially the one in the first period. I think it was Bach had picked up a rebound in the slot and had the whole top of the net to shoot at while Burt was falling on her stomach. Bach rifled a wrist shot and Burt while falling forward on her stomach flashed her glove upward and somehow caught the puck on its way into the net. Bach was shaking her head in disbelief. One of the best saves I have seen in any college game this season. Should have made the Sports Center Top 10.

Absolutely loved that Miano goal celebration. A brief understated arms in the air Patty Kaz trophy pose, then epic stick and glove toss. That’s how it’s done!

A bit off topic but, not knowing whether your 3 Olympic undergrad players will be returning to play in the tournaments and NCAAs or took the year off, you guys appear to get the biggest post Olympic bump by far going into the playoffs....3 players.

With the same assumption, everyone else in the top 10 with Olympic players, only gets 1 player back...i.e, Colgate, Mercyhurst, MInnesota and Wisconsin.

That could loom large especially given the talent displayed by them last night...

Minnesota gets two, Kelly Pannek and Sarah Potomak. And Sarah's younger sister Amy was centralized but did not make the final Canadian roster, and will preserve her four years of eligibility.

Our 3 players took the full year off, and I am pretty sure aren't enrolled in school at the moment (it would be hard to both centralize and and go to classes haha) so I don't think they'd be eligible to play for the rest of the season even if they wanted to.

But yep, Flanagan and Keller will be back for their senior year next season, and Cayla Barnes, while she did play a few games at the beginning of the season, did not play enough games to nix her first year of eligibility and will re-start her career as a freshman next season.

Sarah was also cut from the Canadian team. It would have been nice to have them on the team this year however the future is bright.

On TSN radio yesterday, Tessa Bonhomme questioned a number of Hockey Canada roster decisions.

Yes, it looks like the U.S. team wasn't the only one that made some pretty strange roster choices. Cutting the Potomaks, not even calling up Daryl Watts, etc.

Re: BC Women's Hockey '17-'18: Olympic Year Titles Are Just As Sweet

The Canadian roster decision that never made sense to me was their perpetual refusal to ever give Kelly Terry a chance, and cutting her permanently last summer. That was especially true when they included Sarah Nurse, who is a not quite as good version of Kelly Terry.
