Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

If he continues his play I'd be shocked if he doesn't make All WCHA Rookie.

There is a lot of freshman talent this year in the WCHA and it is going to be quite fun to watch. Bjugstad will be solid as he gets used to the league. That Haula is solid. Forbort is a stud.

I think this weekend will see a split. SCSU has the MN monkey off of its back, so there's no fear there. MN has a ton of talent, but the D is stank and they continue to be weak in front of the net (they have gotten weaker and weaker in front of the net since Hill came, I'm convinced this is his fault). SCSU gets lazy, and I see MN taking advantage of this one night. I think I'll go to one of the games just for something to do this weekend.

Add Matt White, Zengerle, Barnes, Zucker, Bennett, etc to that list too.
Tons of high end freshman talent in the WCHA this season, will be fun to watch as they acclimate better with the speed of the league...some of them already have!

Michigan vs. Western Michigan could also fit that title....though that's not much of a battle.

Michigan could follow Minnesota's lead and turn that match-up into a battle. Minnesota is shooting for accomplishing that with UAA/Tech and Mankato this year.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

It's not a surprise that UNO had success this past weekend vs UMN-TC. They have a nice squad with some veteran players and a coach that will challenge you to run thru a wall for him. The Gophers have no identity right now but are trying to create it with some good young players. However, it's upperclassen that will ultimately create your success in the long run.

There's little seperation in the Huskies and Gophers right now. I disagree with TommyBoy that the Huskies have had one good effort in four. The effort against RIT was good and the second Miami game was a NCAA tourney type battle. SCSU has 8 seniors and success the first half of the season will be ditectly related to the play of those seniors. The second half will see an outstanding crop of first-year players blossom. As such, I expect SCSU to be better the second half of the year. I expect MN to better the second half as well.

This weekend is a toss up. SCSU is still struggling on the PP and until that is corrected it puts them behind the eight ball. The Gophers are at home so that should be an advantage. If SCSU gets in penalty trouble and they don't keep an eye on Bariball they could be in trouble. For some reason Hoeffel plays well against SCSU and I expect him to be a factor as well.

I'd have a tough time predicting the outcome of this series.

Oh sorry, they have played one really strong game, one decent game and two we should be ashamed of ourselves games....By the way, I am glad you can go out on a limb with the "I'd have a tough time predicting the outcome of this series".:D Grow some seeds....Huskies sweep! :p

Biggest difference: UNO has a huge advantage in coaching. I'm sure Hastings and Guentzel know every trick in the soon-to-be-unemployed Don Lucia's playbook.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

Anybody else going to either game? I've got tickets Friday as normally I'm covering high school football but MEA week bailed me out, and now that I've learned the second game's Sunday then that wedding may not cost me a game either.

I'll be at the Friday game.

I have no idea what to expect. Both teams have shown the ability to rollover and play dead. Both teams have shown the ability to fight. Normally I'd say that SCSU did it against a tougher team, but UNO will be the surprise team of the WCHA this year, I think. Blais will get every possible point out of that team like no other coach could.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

Will there be any gopher fans in attendance? Will the goofer football team win one for the Brew Dawg this weekend? Will Obama's appearance be good for the Huskies? Will the goofer team be up to play the Huskies, even if they aren't one of their major rivals? Did the gopher team learn anything from UNO? Does Lou Chia even want to finish out his contract?

A few of us.
Will the goofer football team win one for the Brew Dawg this weekend?
Nope.
Will Obama's appearance be good for the Huskies?
Doubt it, but they shouldn't need it.
Will the goofer team be up to play the Huskies, even if they aren't one of their major rivals?
Maybe for a period or two but not the whole weekend.
Did the gopher team learn anything from UNO?
Doubt it.
Does Lou Chia even want to finish out his contract?
I'm sure he does.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

Good job, Goldy, in answering all my questions. I guess some gopher fans are people, too.

Re: Battle of interstate 94: Huskies @ Gophers

I need to see more out UNO before I put them in the top four in the league like Kevin Gorg did this morning on the PA show......
