Pretty transparent halfway through who this movie is about. ;) But if you want something to really how quickly people can get messed up, look no further.

But lets say you were right...my girlfriend chose the movie, she was pumped to see it, she hated it almost as much as I did. (the difference was she liked the cameos I hated them) How are you going to explain away her dislike Dr. Freudy Doo?

It is great you and the critics liked it (and i mean that seriously, we should all enjoy the movies we pay for) it lasted one week and then no one saw it because the audience didnt. It was 5th in its second week behind Ice Age...when all is said and done it is barely going to be profitable and will be seen as a failure by Sony. On nostalgia alone it should have been a big movie (especially with a high critics score) but no one liked it because it just wasnt that good. It wasnt sexism, or anger or anything, the movie just didnt do much. If you are going to reboot a classic, you cant half *** it.

I think my girlfriend said it best...what was the story? Who were they fighting? How did we get to the conclusion? (and what was with the stupid Homeland Security/Mayor story that served zero purpose) The movie was basically Kirstin Wiig playing her usual character, Melissa McCarthy playing her usual character and MacKinnon talking monotonally and making bad jokes. (oh but hey she danced to an 80s song so...yeah) Leslie Jones was good though. The hamfisting of putting in elements of the original movie (like using phrases from the song, the way the logo came about, Slimer, The Marshmallow Man) needed to go too. If you are starting fresh start fresh. Problem was they had no idea what they were doing so they put in stuff like that hoping the old school fans would dig it...I didnt and neither did they from what I can tell.

That and it really wasn't that funny. Hell, they had Bill ***** Murray in a pretty choice cameo that could have had a lot of laughs out of it, but they just throw him out of the window and didn't use him at all.

Bill Murray's wish was to be killed in the film. It's what he wanted.

They could have done it in a better way...he should have been like Walter Peck. They half assed it and he totally mailed it in. Ernie Hudson at least was kinda funny.

Yeah, maybe having him go on to being totally convinced that the ghost are real and the Lady ghostbusters are legit to him like running out into the street only to have a bus run him over.

Watching Queen Christina (1933). I never understood why Garbo was considered one of the greatest actresses of all time until this movie. She is so different -- so remarkably human, subtle, and intelligent.

It's also an incredible movie. One of the most adult, sensitive, deep treatments of love and eroticism I have ever seen.

The Hays Code drove movies into an insipid swamp for 30 years. The movies of the 1930s remain IMHO the most interesting, innovative, intimate movies ever made.

Star Trek Beyond

I love the new character they created, Jaylah. But, this movie isn't Star Trek. The core principle of Star Trek (charting new worlds, and finding new aliens) is absent from the entire film. When the villian is revealed for who he is it is such a downer.

Jaylah gets a 5 out of 5. Star Trek Beyond gets a 2.

Eddie The Eagle:

Pretty much fiction, and 100% cheese and corn, but gol durnit, I loved every minute of it. I remember watching the actual Olympics when he skied. How could you NOT root for the guy?! He IS what the Olympics should be about. Pure determination and spirit. Highly recommend this feel-good movie.

A movie has to meet certain requirements for me to see in a theater. Spoiler effect, my wanting to see it has to be off the charts, and can I see it without it being a packed audience.

Star Trek was borderline on the first two requirements. Wasn't worried about an audience a week after its release.

Now, Suicide Squad, I hope to see that opening day, early showing, at a not-popular theater. Have the day off, might as well take advantage. That movie definitely fits the "spoiler effect" requirement, and the "wanting to see it" (because it looks SO *ED UP) is right there, too.

Lights Out: Not your average horror movie. This has characters that are developed, that you care about and that don't act like typical moronic fodder for the killer. The resolution does leave unanswered questions but it doesn't take away from the film. 7.5/10.

Among the trailers before the movie was a fascinating film called "Split" It looks fantastic. Kinda wish the trailer hadn't gone to the psychiatrist's office and just stayed in the bunker but it was chilling. The line McAvoy delivers at the end of the trailer is masterful.

The Resurrection of Jake the Snake

100% feels. Having seen "Beyond The Mat" (great doc), I knew Jake's basic story/background, including he was born b/c his dad raped his mom...yeah. Major issues. Seeing him work to overcome his demons was intense. Diamond Dallas Page, leading the way, and throw in Scott Hall (sometimes known as Razor Ramon, depending on your era of pro wrestling).

Tough movie to watch, as it is quite frank and blunt. They don't exactly shine the turds here. Brutally honest, and this is one I definitely would say is a must-watch.

The Invitation

After being off the radar for 2 years, a woman and her new husband invite her ex and other mutual friends over for a dinner party; however, strange things are afoot.

This movie was 100 minutes or so. 70 of it was buildup which dragged on and on and on and on. It went nowhere. It was actually painful to watch at times. The initial payoff is beyond predictable, and the "shocking" final scene is following right behind. It wasn't bad acting, or bad production, like you would see in some B-movie. It was just a cookie-cutter script. At best.
