Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Also, the more you specify a character the more you reduce him/her. This should be called the "Don Draper Problem."

Questions are open-ended and interesting. Answers are limited and boring.

You mean like how in the Original Trilogy Obi Won didnt recognize the droids he spent most of the prequels with or how in Empire Yoda had to tell them there were two Skywalkers even though he was at the birth of them? It is just stupid let the fans fill in gaps the more story you tell the more you become a slave to continuity and deviations become problematic. Continuity has all but killed comic books because nerds hold it as super precious and never let it go.

To be fair, he was pretty old by then. ;)

True...and now we can get a whole new trilogy to tell us how he got Alzheimer's while communing with Qui Gon Dead on Tatooine playing in the sand ;)

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

There is maybe, but Disney is wasting zero time oversaturating the market. Sooner or later even the uber fans are going to tire of this stuff.

This is starting to stink of George Lucas...not every story needs to be told. Mystery is good too. The more you fill in the gaps the more you then create unneeded plot holes later on. (we have discussed the prequel created plot holes at length)

You'll get no argument from me on that. I was just noting what those who are aggressively looking for stories to tell could actually make of something.

According to the Star Wars website, and this is because of the prequels that they had to come to this number, but Obi Wan was only 57 when he faced Vader on the Death Star. Alec Guinness was in his 60s when they filmed the first movie.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Oh there are stories to tell...not every tale needs its own movie (or trilogy) though ;) A two hour movie about Ben Kenobi on Tatooine sounds like Castaway without Wilson and Ewan McGregor is no Tom Hanks :p

Do the movie where Vader hunts down the Jedi and then intertwine Obi Won and Yoda.

Just saw Star Trek Beyond. Gave it a 4 out of 5. Opening was good. Ending was dragged out a bit.

Worth the $11.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

The big news out of San Diego Comic Con is that the September release previously known as The Woods is actually Blair Witch and will be a direct sequel to the 1999 hit. It will feature Heather's "brother" leading an effort to find the three missing students in the original. The movie was screened Thursday night and both the crowd and critics loved it. Perri Nemiroff of Collider reviewed it and gave an 8/10.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

I guess I wouldnt call that big news...I dont think anyone really cares. The reason Blair Witch worked was because it was kind of the first of that wave of "found footage" movies and the fake campaign that it was real. There will be nothing like that this time.

Maybe. But there isn't much else coming out of SDCC (yet)

Oh great, another "horror" film that relies entirely on titillating teenagers with dialogue like this:

Person 1: Efff you! You lost the efffing map, by the effing woods, at the effing lake! EFFFFFFFF!!!

Person 2: Go efff yourself!

Person 3: Jesus Effing Christ, will you to effers shut the eff up!!! We're all efffed!

Funniest. Halloween. Ever. When you are a 12 year-old. ;)

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Found footage was a nice idea. It isn't their fault everybody else ran it into the ground.

The original Blair Witch is OK. Overrated, yes, but again... not their fault.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

The original was fine - I enjoyed it enough but the constant arguing between the characters became extremely annoying and grating after a bit so if I hear anything that garbage is part of the next one I'll stay away. The sequel won't necessarily need the found footage angle either to be successful - there are many other ways to skin a cat/young movie ticket buyer. I give long odds but....

I missed out on my calling.

Star Trek Beyond was a perfectly reasonable movie. Nothing special, nothing bad. Solid B.

Weak spoiler: I loved the bees, and I love the idea of using purely kinetic weapons in space. Of course your shields don't do anything, they aren't phase weapons.

You know, I really want to get behind Wonder Woman, but I'm struggling to get 100% on board here. I can't put my finger on why I'm not liking the trailer as much as everyone else. And it's disappointing because DC made a great overall impression with me coming out of SDCC.

That's the Justice League trailer and I'm totally buying into what Snyder is doing there. You can tell that it's still his work, but he turned a corner from Bats v. Supes. I want to see more Barry Allen. I want to see Aquaman continue to be Billy Badass. Even there seeing Wonder Woman being co-captain w/ Bruce Wayne appeals to me. I just don't have that ambition with a WW-I Wonder Woman piece. I've got a year to turn the corner I guess.

The Help:

Rather blunt movie without being over-the-top in the issues presented. Very solid movie, and would definitely recommend.

Weak spoiler:

I'd agree with this. Since I had the day off work, I went to see it in a near empty theater on the giant screen. The one thing that bothered me was the spinning camera, actually had to look away from the screen until the shot settled down a couple times.
