The Hateful 8

Meh.

It was good-ish, but I want more than good-ish from a Quentin movie.

Kind of a Reservoir Dogs re-hash too.

A few good performances but the story left me to wonder what the point was.

There was no payoff.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Eye in the Sky. A+, perfect movie. Probably the only movie I have ever seen that I would call "gripping."

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Creed:

Good movie. It's pure Hollywood blockbuster cheese, but it's good cheese. I mean, it IS a Rocky movie...

I enjoyed it, got what I expected, and that is that.

Did you ever read Scott Stapp's review of the movie? "Nope, wrong! We never did that."

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

We watched the remake of "Point Break" last night. What a hot, ****ing mess. Way to make Keanu Reeves look like a master actor in the old one. It seemed like someone said "Hey the kids these days like lots of those action sports, let's tie a bunch of videos of guys doing that stuff together and ladle some silly-*** plot on it!"

Sorry I spent $4.99 to stream that thing.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Warmth: The Don Rickles Project:

Doc on Don Rickles, general commentary on his career and such. Decent time-killer, although if you are unfamiliar with his humor, man....if you want a top-notch hate-comic, he is it.

Edit: as for Scott Stapp, about a month or two ago, he was singing in a VFW/Elks Lodge Hall on a Wednesday in Milwaukee (or similar to that). Buddy texted me about it. Don't really care what he says. ;)

The original is a guilty pleasure for me. I actually like it. I think we might even own it.

I was surprised to hear that they were remaking it and then saw the previews and realized it was a completely different movie.

Then I saw it's score on RT and IMDB.

Had no interest in the first one, but understand the guilty pleasure of it (I have some myself). But the remake? Nope. All the nopes.

Same here. It's crap but it's awesome crap. c.f. Roadhouse.

Roadhouse I do own. I also put up Rock Of Ages and Bloodsport in that category (also own).

There is a difference between "horribly awesome" and "awesomely horrible."

I think the difference is a wink and the obvious enjoyment of the entire crew. There are movies which while you are watching you know everybody from the leads down to the gaffer is having a blast, and those movies are infectious.

Agreed. There is a personal fave, called "Bounty Killer." Amazingly bad in a Machete sort of way. And in that aspect, amazingly awesome:

There are a bunch of terrible 50's sci-fi movies that I feel that way about. Not even "so bad they're good" in terms of production values, but awful/great like Roadhouse, where as long as you allow yourself to just ride with 110% suspension of disbelief, they're... well, they're still terrible, but fun. This is one of my favorites.

BTW, I responded on the other thread to the HoC question, trying to clarify what I meant. Though I think Gurtholfin hit it exactly.

Saw Bats vs Supes tonight. Eh, thought they tried to cram too much into it, and they had 3 bloody hours to try to do it. If they really wanted to build their own DC version of the MCU, they should have done some other movies first. Aquaman dealing with Kryptonite in the Ocean say about 4 to 6 months after the Superman-Zod battle perhaps. That and perhaps a prequel Wonder Woman flick based about the time when the picture was taken.

A lot of the cuts and jumps just didn't make a whole lot of sense, just felt like they should have had a whole lot more movie explaining things, like how does Bruce figure that Clark is Superman, and how does Lex figure out those secret identities as well? Just confusing.

They don't have to explain anything cause they jumped into the middle. On purpose. Batman is close to retirement at the start of this universe. Man of Steel was the only film that's part of the universe that's played. And, with even more beauty, Suicide Squad will be the third. Villians that supposedly have been put away by these heroes.

It's a different tact. A, you know who these people are already so we're going to go straight to the epic stuff with no set up ploy.

Tack, not tact.

I like the approach: in media res FTW. In particular I love the concept of Suicide Squad.

Yeah, I agree on the original. I can't imagine buying it, but if it's on cable, I may turn it on. I need to find it and have my son watch it, since he made me watch that piece of crap of a remake.

It's on TV about three times a week. I have rarely seen a movie with that kind of constant rotation. It's up there with Rocky III and Legally Blonde. I guess the rights must be really cheap.

Suicide Squad is reportedly going through a Deadpool rewrite and reshoots. After the huge success of Deadpool, and so many people blasting BvS for its "lack of fun," WB decided that they needed to artificially add some of what Deadpool managed to do organically. Yeah, because adding in scenes like that a couple months before release always makes for a good experience.
