Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Leonard Maltin reviewing Batman Vs Superman, "When was it decided superhero movies shouldn't be any fun?"

It's getting 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. Something didn't sit right with me about this film before the reviews were released, now I really don't want to see it.

I've heard numerous people say "If you saw the trailers and thought 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?' you won't enjoy this movie."

Speaking of that, I saw Whiskey Tango Foxtrot last Tuesday. Decent. Nothing special, but not bad.

I saw it, I liked it a lot. (though it is flawed) My buddy saw it and he did as well. My girlfriend enjoyed it and thought the reviews were off base.

I dunno I had a blast and in reality that is all I care about. I agree with some of the stuff the reviewers said and others I wonder if they actually watched the movie at all.

(that will probably be all I say about it any time soon)

Colin Covert (Star Tribune) shredded the movie, but I don't give much credence to him, as he hates anything popular (he's THAT guy; you know the type). However, I'm not hearing good things about the movie overall.

I saw Batman v. Superman Thursday night... Overall I give it 3.5 stars...

It did feel a bit labored with all the world building it had to do... Also there are some plot elements that left me scratching my head being unfamiliar with DC Comics and the general stories associated with certain characters... Obviously a different tone from Marvel movies.

Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg did a good job portraying their characters... I'd go as far to say that Eisenberg did great and is only brought down by the material he had to work with... No fault on his end kind of deal...

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

Well, that was a predictable bloated mess. I quite literally said out loud "Oh you gotta be f*ing kidding me!" when I heard the line "It's a primrose."

Beverly Hills Ninja on TV. Great Sunday afternoon time killer by the late great Chris Farley.

Uncle John:

(imdb description): In this tale of small town intrigue, an urbanite returns to his quiet hometown on an impromptu trip as his Uncle, widely respected in town, struggles to evade suspicion of a murder.

It was eh. Not meh, but eh. Tedious, and I get what they were going for, and they almost did it. Worth an afternoon watch, but wouldn't necessarily seek it out.

This is a pretty cool site although it's very early on in concept. They fact check movies that are "based on a true story" scene by scene - giving a brief description of how it's portrayed in the movie side-by-side with what they could verify in real life. So far they've only rated about 8 movies, but luckily I've seen them all so it I found it quite interesting: http://www.informationisbeautiful.net/visualizations/based-on-a-true-true-story/

Now if they would only do it with Trump's speeches.

That site is beautiful! Thank you for posting it.

Fresh:

A 12 year old kid hustles the streets in the drug game; he is a delivery boy, but is on track to move up. Excellent movie. Came out in the Boyz N The Hood era, and you can tell that tone, but it sets itself apart as a different movie. Caught my eye as Giancarlo Esposito (Gus in Breaking Bad) and Sam L are in it as main characters.

Highly recommend. Good plot, great execution.

Female Agents:

French movie about a special team of women put together to rescue a spy from Germany in WWII. Of course, everything goes wrong, drama ensues. Based on true story, so obviously some things were changed, but still a really, really great movie. Must-see for war buffs, highly recommend for others. And Sophie Marceau kicks arse.

Saw Batman vs. Superman. Good movie. I liked it. Wonder Woman was perfect. Still don't like the costume. I already hate Aquaman. The movie had some very very bright spots and some very very bad spots. Explains the mixed reviews. Worth a look. It had enough fun in it and I grew up watching Justice League cartoons so there was a lot of smiles for me.

Was Ben the bad part?

Im surprised you liked it... Can I guess you didn't like Lex Luthor?

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

I don't think I'm going to like Lex either, but I will still go see it.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Finally got around to seeing The Big Short.

Didn't really break new ground for me on the topics, but very well done. And yeah, the big banks can still go Fark themselves.
