Basketball 2017

If you go off the numbers, Clark was a borderline call right now. It's kind of funny, in fact, to compare her numbers with Diana Taurasi's. Their numbers are virtually identical, with Clark picking up a few more assists per game, but also having a few more turnovers. There was just no way they weren't going to give DT another shot at the Olympics. But I put that on DT, a little bit, as well. She's had lots of Olympic glory and medals. She's 42. Why not give one of the new kids a shot and attract some new eyeballs to the game.

Because DT does not give a shit about anyone but herself. Been like that since day one.

I don’t think Caitlin Clark deserved to make the team or perhaps that it was even fair for her to make it, but the decision to leave her off seems extremely short sighted. At the end of the day sports is in the entertainment business and why not give people what they want? Your top eight players are going to make or break you and after that it isn’t going to make much difference as far as winning or losing. She was the number one player in the draft and putting up decent numbers so it’s not like she’s some scrub.

don’t want no scrubs

Dan Hurley turns down the Lakers 6-$70 million offer to stay at UConn. Smart man. Coaches don't last long with Lebron.

Many great athletes are outrageously narcissistic. It probably helped make them great.

But even so, it's hardly surprising that the women who built the professional sport are jaded about all the attention being given to Clark in no small measure because she is white and straight. That doesn't speak to Clark not potentially being great, nor to the opportunity to use her to make the sport higher profile and more lucrative. Being the new flavor of the month and not having paid dues and generating a lot of resentment at the hype is what every Bonus Baby has gone through.

It's just ordinary gatekeeping; it will play out and someday she'll be the Old doing it to the next shooting star twerp.

So yes, I'm happy the Celtics won! I can't watch games on TV as I am a jinx. Last night I saw on Twitter they had a sizeable lead in the third and felt confident so I turned the game on ad Dallas immediately scored 7 points in, like, 14 seconds so I shut it off. Turned it back on with 2:30 or left and while it was obvious they would win, I don't think they scored a basket. Heh.

Anyway, the parade is set for Friday at 11:00am. My office is a block from the parade route. I was planning to be in the office to arrange for a courier to deliver some things from the office to a location of an event I'm managing on Monday. The courier was supposed to leave the office at 11:00. Greeeaat. Now I have to re-schedule for Thursday. /FirstWorldProblems

38 years ago Len Bias decided to sniff some cocaine with friends in his dorm celebrating his being drafted with the 2nd pick by the Celtics. We were living in New Mexico at the time and my wife's brother called and told me about his death. I was stunned, and called the Boston Globe to verify.
