B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

For those interested, Rick Pizzo of the BTN has been answering questions about the BTN coverage of B1G Hockey on GPL. Some good questions and some insightful answers. Nice of him to do this.

Thanks for the link. I wouldn't have seen it otherwise!

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

A little disappointed at the news of Friday doubleheaders. If it was Saturdays it would be fine (but of course that's basketball's day) but Munn is always a little slow to fill on Fridays and 6:30 starts won't help that.

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

I hate BTN.

Why can't there just be 12 individual networks that are homer networks for each team?

All I wanted was to be held last season and told everything is going to be okay. And that Michigan will go 40-0-0 in 2013-14 and Andrew Copp will win his first of three Hobey Bakers.

Is that too much to ask?!

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

Some stats on what B1G teams have returning in terms of offensive numbers only.

http://www.westerncollegehockeyblog...-michigan-ohio-penn-state-wisconsin-minnesota

Creative approach. But if you take it the next step...Goals per game times the percent returning, you get:

PSU 2.59 Goals/Game returning
UW 2.17 Goals/Game returning
MI 2.15 Goals/Game returning
OSU 2.15 Goals/Game returning
MN 1.97 Goals/Game returning
MSU 1.74 Goals/Game returning

The last piece of the puzzle is SOS. Each of the five WCHA/CCHA teams have surprisingly similar SOS (ranging from .5050 for MN to .5092 for UW). PSU had a SOS of .4782.

With all that, it would appear that UW would be in the best position going into the season with MN having the furthest to go to match its prior season.

“@B1GHockey: Want to know how to watch your favorite teams this season? Stay tuned for the #B1GHockey TV schedule later this afternoon.”

Posting this again. For those with questions once the schedule is released, Rick Pizzo from the BTN has been answering questions on GPL.

This must be a really late afternoon today.

Guys at GPL were able to piece together Gopher's TV schedule from Gopher's website if you would like to see at least the games you have versus UMN:

Friday 11/29 - Wisconsin at Minnesota on...ESPNU? Surprising, but I'll be able to watch that from the East!

And it turns out we have a Thursday game after all (Feb. 6).

Yeah, and two games on ESPN News? On one hand the national exposure is a good thing, but I can just see them cutting into these games halfway into the 1st period after some bouncy ball game runs late.

This was pretty cool. The three most memorable games in each of the Big Ten Program's histories:

I enjoyed that. As a young guy who hasn't found much old college hockey footage, I just wish there were videos to go with it.

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

Plenty of old Gopher Hockey footage out there, but not sure if you'd be interested in that :)

I've seen a bit of it. I can respect the history, especially in the offseason. :D

I feel like there's no way UW isn't just sitting on a ton of old broadcast tapes, as they show old footage when honoring old teams/players, and you can look at media guides from the coliseum era on the UW Libraries site. I've found some old stuff from the 2000s, but there's not much straight-up broadcast footage from earlier decades, other than the water bottle game vs UND.
