B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

Can also say that half of the conference is ranked in the top 15. but that's not really saying much.....

Crud- nobody else is even getting votes. What's up with that?!

Come on, States- the three of you can do better.

They're cow-colleges, what do you expect?

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

Is there even 1000 fans in the crowd?

Maybe that's normal for Ohio State...

Their attendances vary by a lot, but I'd guess this is on the lower end, being in the first half of the season on a Monday (bump it up a little for Michigan). Also, when you're dealing with fans scattered about a large seating bowl, fans tend to spread out and not sit right on the glass, so it's harder to see on TV.

That's prob tickets sold.
Someone at the radio show last night (think it was Wally or tDon) was saying that tOSU was running some sort of special to try to get 15K in there... giving away tickets, I thought I heard. Obviously didn't work.

Ohio residents (who are typically not that big into college hockey to begin with) travelling hundreds of miles to sit outside in Minnesota in the dead of winter. That'll be a hard sell.

Bucky played tOSU at Lambeau in '06.

I don't remember there being much of a presence for their fans.

It's definitely tickets sold. How many of those tickets were eaten is the question.

It's always tickets sold. The number of tickets scanned at the gate is available somewhere (Wisconsin fans may remember that article last year about the number of used vs. unused tickets in UW athletics), but the announced figure is always paid attendance.

Here's the article. Pretty interesting stuff.

Can break it down by sport here.

Ummm.... I was referring to the game last night.... Ugly Helmets @ tOSU

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

First weekend in the books and what a shock- Michigan tied with minnesota for first place.

When they play, it's going to be something else. It's been a long time coming.

Was at the Frozen Diamond Faceoff in Cleveland. The announced attendance was 25,831. That definitely wasn't the case. I'd say it was about 19K. And there were a lot of Michigan fans.

This. I cannot wait. Been way too long since these teams have played meaningful games. The saving graceful of the conference shakeup for me was getting Michigan back in the same conference. Love this rivalry because it's built on equal parts respect and hatred :p:D

That was interesting, especially being able to look game-by-game. I'm not sure about some of those numbers, though. Senior night of the 2011-12 men's hockey season was an announced sellout, and I saw a full venue. The third deck behind my head could have been invisible, but there were not as many empty seats as they indicated, unless suites were the difference. For basketball and hockey, student tickets are the difference (basketball has the major bandwagon effect, hockey has holidays). Given those actual attendances, it gets pretty **** loud!
