B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

How bad is AIC? Giving up 60+ shots to PSU and needing OT to win. On the other hand, their goalie must be decent.

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

I was under the impression that Penn State COULD NOT play any other B1G school this year? Why then are they going to play at both sparty and bucky?

Why on earth would that be the case? Under what rational would they be unable to play a Big 10 team? Unwilling? I could see wanting not to get killed by the Gophers or not just squeak out a win vs UMich, but unable? Makes no sense.

I actually thought that game had PSU written all over it. It's AIC for Parise's sake.

Jeeze, maybe it'll be OSU joining the elite ranks of the B1G while 'Sconny is a bottom dweller along with MSU and PSU. ;)

Big 2 and little 4. Michigan and minnesota are gonna be facing off for the playoff championship the first year. Book it.

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

You will continue to see teh MN arrogance. But do keep in mind that the move of just one program singlehandedly led to the realignment of NCAA hockey.

The Gophers will likely have a good team next year also. But we are potentially just a couple of years from a time when players once again use the program strictly as a stepping stone to the pros (i.e., EJ, Okposo).

what makes you say that? personally i dont think there is any reason to believe the kids coming in are any more likely to leave early than the kids we have now.. in fact if anything they might be less likely as they are not NHL prototypes coming in..

i think this is minnesotas good chance here this year. if they dont make it this year, with the juniors they are probably losing, it will be the year after next before they are a real threat again (just my early season prediction). as i said in another thread, losing any less than 4 junior forwards and 2 junior defensemen this offseason would be a windfall

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

I agree with jerry. It's about who you recruit and the relationships between the coaches and the players as much as the state of the program. I don' think anyone expected EJ to stay more than one and Okposo was a once in a generation doosh. Now that Hill is gone I see fewer reasons for the unexpected.

I heard that thy were not allowed to per B1G conference rules, play another B1G team out of conference play that is...

The Big Ten doesn't sponsor varsity hockey this season, therefore it's allowed because there's no Big Ten Hockey Conference.

Also, if there was that rule for hockey, then why the hell was there a College Hockey Showcase? Or the Culver Classic? Or any series between the Big Ten schools... ever?
