"Hockeytown" was used by Warroad, MN DECADES before the Red Wings braintrust decided they needed a moniker and couldn't muster the brain power to come up with something original on their own.

If you knew anything about hockey, wasn't our fault that the team was run by an arsehole. And not saying you're the worst hockey state. You're just not the best. ;)

MN IS the State Of Hockey, through and through. Period. No shame in placing second. I'm dead serious.

I'm pessimistic about the Big10 hockey conference ever growing to the point where it will gain traction, but I agree that the focus right now, and for the foreseeable future, should be about culturing that growth. It's the only way to make it successful over the long haul. And in that regard, I do agree that on-campus tournaments would be best. Yes, there are some difficulties with that, but it is the best way to grow interest and promote the conference. And besides, I can deal with the less-than-ideal situation of OSU or Wisco hosting once every, what, 25 years? :p

I also agree with you Handy that it would be better if a/some team(s) were eliminated after the regular season. It makes the RS mean a hell of a lot more. And that is important.

Even MSU managed to not have that low of attendance this year (paid or otherwise), and we were awful in the first half.

Should've held it at Compuware, apparently.

Honestly I think Grand Rapids could work better for this tournament, but it's too "small town" for the Big Ten. It's getting recognized for brewing, it doesn't have the stigma of Detroit, even though it is possible to have a good time in Detroit without getting shot, and Van Andel only seats 12k. Seems perfect to me.

Wisconsin had no business being in a post season tournament and one day a team like that will be out to injure other teams just cause they have nothing to lose. Not to mention what fan wants to watch the last place team play for the price these tournies charge?

Honestly I would rather they have the bottom 2 teams out and do a Final Four but not sure they would go for that. Would make campus sites more feesible though as you just have 2 day of games. (do Saturday/Sunday for travel)

I think campus sites is the way to go for a while. Make the tickets harder to get. If they could find a way to award it to the conference champ that would rock but it just isnt really possible so rotate it.

If your attitude is typical, high school hockey in Michigan will always be crappy, which is fine by us. Total attendance in our tourney this year was a record 135,618. How did your's do?

3465 total attendance. That must include: Ticket sold, clicks on the web-site, the players, concession vendors and all the homeless within the six block area. Oops, I forgot...the homeless and the concession vendors are the same people.

I couldn't help but laugh every time I heard it referred to as "Iconic" Joe Louis Arena.

I don't know if I'd say that. Its just gaining traction in a different way. B1G hockey has higher awareness and viewership than ever. It has access to 90 million homes...and 60 million can watch us on any given weekend. Its not another thousand in an arena...but no other programs have that kind of televised schedule, fans, and frankly cash going for them.

Instead of whining, some of us actually do show up. Obviously some of you think you are a better person since you support hockey better. Not sure why you think that, but you do. Good for you and your psyche.

Regardless, it's not about the rink money, it's about the tv money. Btn gets more money than fox did, so the ticket sales don't matter. If they did, the big ten would bother to just send a press release to the news in the area. They didn't. Nor a hotel or ticket packages and the ticket prices are higher than home games for Michigan and State. Easy way to avoid fans there, charge them more to see teams they don't care for. Brilliant.

As I posted before, promoting this is easy, as is filling the rink. The big ten needs to just try.

Or, conversely, the Minnesota fans will continue to tell us about suff no one else cares about. We'll also learn how much Minnesota loves hockey, but not enough to travel for the B1G tournament.

Having been at the game last night, I'd say the attendance number given was probably correct. It seemed to be just as many as the 2011 NCAA regional in St. Louis (which is to say, empty NHL arena). On tv it looked sparse (and it was), but there were more fans outside the camera's view in the seats where you can actually watch plays develop. Greedily, I sometimes like these low attendance games where you can sit wherever you want and someone hands you a free ticket when you get there.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of attendance the Michigan vs. MSU game gets tonight.

Plus all of the additions to stuff to put on the btn. Lacrosse for crying out loud.

It's all about tv stuff. Not ratings, just live filler.
