B1G Championship in Detroit

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

I said it before and I'll say it again, the B1G Tournament ever being in Saint Paul is a bunch of bull****. It's 7 miles from the Minny campus.

Don't insult my intelligence and call that a neutral site. Get rid of the stupid format and go to campus sites.

Well maybe if your fans showed up for games they wouldnt need to put it in St. Paul just to get ticket sales.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

OSU hasn't won a conference championship since Nixon was president and Wisconsin should clear up their arena schedule. It's not like they aren't the owners and operators of the Kohl Center.

They have other things that get priority. It wasnt long ago Sconnie had to play at the Dane because of I believe volleyball...Wisconsin hockey may ply at the Kohl but they are second class citizens there.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

Attendance has been strong throughout the years, with 22 tournaments eclipsing the 100,000+ barrier, and in 2004 a record setting total of 120,114 (both classes). In the 2006 State Tournament, the average attendance per game in the championship brackets was 18,000 people. The Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament is currently the largest state sports tournament in terms of viewing and attendance, beating the Texas State High School Football Tournament, Florida's State High School Football Tournament, and Indiana's State High School Basketball Tournament.

God, you people are so obnoxious with this ****. Do you honestly think we, Michiganders, give two ****s and a holler about your high school hockey statistics? I'm sorry, but it has to be said. Every time, literally every time, I see or am in a discussion with people from MN, they bring up their HS hockey stats.

HS football isn't even big in this state unless it's on the West side.

And why would I care/attend a HS sporting event unless I have a child who is participating in said-sporting event?

This is why you fail.

MN is the king of hockey. Deal with it, you moron. You want to spout "Hockeytown?" There is no definition there. Hockey is more than the NHL. So, like your other knuckle-dragging brethren, you should STeffU

Way less commercials and fans that actually cheer? I would rather watch hs hockey over most pro or college sports. Crap is too monetized now.

Do you think we Minnesotans give two craps about any of your teams or how many titles they won? Doesnt stop your obnoxious fanbase from telling us about them all the flipping time. Isnt that the point of caring about something?

But hey, you Michiganders cant even be bothered to watch you team play in person...

The Tourney drew a record 135,618 fans this season.

This video of the ticket line is INSANE.

Tough titty said the kitty, but the milk's still good.

Solution: win the conference. It gives you more of an incentive, no?

That was the format of pretty much every B1G Tournament sans Basketball until the schools with less-than athletic departments starting bleating about how it wasn't fair. So they went to a rotating site at campuses in most sports* instead of awarding the tournament hosting duties to the regular season champion.

*Baseball infuriatingly went to pro, neutral sites in 2011 where it continues to draw awful numbers for most games unless it's in Omaha and involving Nebraska.

Trust me I know all about the baseball tournament I went to everyone from 02-13. I enjoyed my visits to minnesota, Illinois and Michigan

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

They should have a promo tomorrow all you can eat Little Ceasars pizza with paid attendance. They are trying to push that bacon thing right?

That's my entire point. You guys are the gold standard. Everyone is going to look terrible in comparison.

We like our teams. You guys like the sport. The state is huge on tradition, hence why the GLI attendance is still decent even though it's less than it used to be. The Big Ten Tournament isn't a tradition, it's new and overpriced, and only 1/4 of the teams tonight featured were "ours".

Yeah, the HS Tourney is so lame to people outside the state of Minnesota. I guess that's why Gary Thorne REQUESTED to do TV play-by-play for the Tourney last year. He wanted the experience because it's a meaningless tournament

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

WE HAVE HOCKEYTOWN! But only for NHL. In the good years. Maybe. If we win a title. Or are maybe in the hunt. Possible. And the coach is cool.

Listen fool, where in this thread did I start talking about Hockeytown.

Hockeytown is a registered trademark and a branding thing with the Red Wings. I do find it incredibly amusing how it riles people not from MI up, though.

I'm just saying that when you obnoxious rubes bring up HS hockey stats, don't expect a **** to be given by, uh, 95% of people from this state.

This. There is a contingent of MNs going to the WCHA tournament tomorrow, because hockey. Not "our" teams are playing. We go because hockey. BOX. SUPER BOX.

There has to be a centrally located city with a mid sized arena and the infrastructure to handle this until it grows...it could take ten years before anyone cares including Gopher fans. Otherwise rotate campus sites for the next 6 years.

Also, if we must have this stupid tournament make sure the bottom team doesnt make it. Go to a Final Five format where 4 vs. 5 is the play in game and go from there.

You do understand I'm agreeing with you, correct? I'm just giving the reasoning...

But, I would like to point out that despite being crowned the new Worst Hockey State in America, we've never lost our NHL team to the Bible Belt.
