Atlantic Hockey Post Season Pick'em

Re: Atlantic Hockey Post Season Pick'em

yeah if you give up a lot of shots that could be trouble. aic allowed 95 in two games to rit and you can see what it got them. but yeah, anything can happen in a single game.

Yeah, I don't care how good your goalie is, if you give RIT 30-40 shots a game, we're going to put up more goals than Madolora is going to let in. And I don't think their goalie is anywhere near good enough to keep them in the game if we can put up a lot of shots.

Their offense is going to have to keep them in the game, which is a tall task against our defense and most importantly of course, our goalie.

As I've said before, Bartus should cause us some worry. Remember the quarterfinals last year, in which we outshot UConn 55-18 and didn't manage to win it until 10 minutes into OT. He can steal games.

Solve him and likely we've solved UConn. His stats don't look great this year, but he's also had more shots put on him than any other tender - says something about the team in front of him. He's also had more minutes than any other tender, but if you work out the math, few tenders have faced the shots/game or shots/minute he has (and they happen to tend for teams like AIC, both Sacred Heart tenders, Canisius).

The separation along those lines isn't night and day, of course, but a spectrum... still somewhat telling.

Re: Atlantic Hockey Post Season Pick'em

the thing about UCONN is that the shots on goal discrepancy is a little misleading, though obvioulsy you don't want your goalie to have to stop 50 every night. But UCONN doesn't shhot the puck alot. they were at the bottom of the league in shots on goal, but in the middle in scoring and lead the leagu ein scoring percentage. Their style is based on making good shots, as opposed to some other teams that tend to take many shots. If they can get 25-28, and keep RIT to say 35-38, I think they'll be right in the game. I'd prefer not to be outshot 50-18 though.

Re: Atlantic Hockey Post Season Pick'em

i think rit could get into trouble with some early penalties and a goal. seemed to happen a lot early in the season and it can really throw us off our game. but hey, anyone can beat anyone in a one game playoff. we did beat denver last year...

I would be is shock if that happend actually because RIT is very good in the post season with controlling their anger. Besides Tyler McR learned his lesson. They understand what is at stake and well RIT was here last year and look what they did. Favot got screwed...

i worded it poorly, my fault. i meant more to say that is how they could find themselves into trouble, not that i thought it was likely to happen.

Semifinals:
UConn vs RIT
Holy Cross vs Air Force

Final: Pick the winner __RIT__

Re: Atlantic Hockey Post Season Pick'em

RIT vs Air Force Saturday night.

Just like I didn't predict! If only Holy Cross held onto their lead.........

Go Tigers!

That said, having watched the second game - Holy Cross looked the better team. Dominated the first period, lots of good chances, just couldn't convert. Meanwhile, AF's first goal was fluky.

Anyone know what's up with Lamoureax? He didn't seem to be getting much ice time until the third, most of it on power plays.

Maybe keeping him fresh so he can cause Madolora problems tomorrow :/

Re: Atlantic Hockey Post Season Pick'em

Thanks again for initiating and managing the AHA pick 'em threads again this season, mar7967!

Best wishes to Air Force in Bridgeport this coming weekend! Would love to see the AHA represented at the FF again this year (I was not so thrilled last year, only because my alma mater got bounced by RIT in Albany).

Ditto. Appreciate the effort, mar.

If it's ever going to happen, this is the year. Favorable draw and a fairly experienced team, except in net, but he's been hot the last two weekends. Air Force was a double-OT loss from the Frozen Four in DC two years ago. Neither Union or UMD are as good as Vermont was then. No pressure on the team--if they lose Friday, they weren't supposed to be there anyway. But they've already proven they can beat Yale, so that should help with the confidence. If teams focus on shutting down the first line, the others are more than capable of picking up the slack.

I still think this is the year for No. 8 for the Sioux, but it would be great if Air Force was in St. Paul to see it!
