Atlantic Hockey playoffs

Re: Atlantic Hockey playoffs

Depending on which UConn team shows up they could make some serious noise. Swept Niagra, split with RIT, and although lost 2 to both AF and MC they were all tight games. Seem to play up and down to teams. Hopefully they get out of their funk

Re: Atlantic Hockey playoffs

Bentley is certainly a scary team. Komm is a very good goalie. RIT was fortunate to sweep them.

Re: Atlantic Hockey playoffs

Odds-on Favorite: Air Force
First Round Surprise: AIC
1st Round Bye Team Most Likely to NOT make it to Rochester: Niagara
Dark Horse Candidate for The Tournament Championship: Holy Cross

Discuss.

I think history and the 1 seed make AFA the favorite, but I wouldn't give it to them by much. With AFA a slight favorite, I'd put the rest of the top 4 seeds very close behind them with about equal chances.

I like your Niagara choice, but again not by much. Again this could be pretty much any of the top 4 seeds. It will be very tough to win a series at either AFA or RIT, so I'd make them a bit less likely to miss out on the final 4.

HC is an interesting choice for a dark horse, but I'd also through UConn and Bentley in there. Of course it could also be RMU if you want to consider them a dark horse.

Clearly there will be a lot of interesting games and this is far more up for grabs than I recall. Also, thank goodness the horrible playoff format from last year is gone!

I'm thinking the top 4 end up making it to Rochester and then it's anybody's to win.

Any one of these guys is capable of stealing a game. Maybe the reason for so much parity in the league this year. Last year only two goalies had GAAs under 2.5.
1 Jason Torf, So, Air Force .946 1.2575
2 Chris Noonan, Sr, Niagara .947 1.5625
3 Shane Madolora, Jr, RIT 19 .939 1.7134
4 Branden Komm, So, Bentley .933 1.9581
5 Brooks Ostergard, Sr, Robert Morris .939 2.0280
6 Matt Ginn, Fr, Holy Cross .910 2.1470
7 Stephen Caple, Sr, Air Force .907 2.1860
8 Max Strang, Sr, Mercyhurst .939 2.2529
9 Dan Morrison, Sr, Canisius .931 2.3027
10 Garrett Bartus, Jr, Connecticut .925 2.3454

I think this is right based off the info here.

If both Sacred Heart and AIC win tonight.

#5 Holy Cross @ #4 Mercyhurst
#8 UConn @ #3 RIT
#10 AIC @ #2 Niagara
#11 Sacred Heart @ #1 Air Force

If the home teams win, then:

#5 Holy Cross #5 @ #4 Mercyhurst
#6 Bentley @ #3 RIT
#7 RMU @ #2 Niagara
#8 UConn @ #1 Air Force

If just Sacred Heart wins:

#5 Holy Cross @ #4 Mercyhurst
#7 RMU @ #3 RIT
#8 UConn @ #2 Niagara
#11 Sacred Heart @ #1 Air Force

If just AIC wins:

#5 Holy Cross @ #4 Mercyhurst
#6 Bentley @ #3 RIT
#8 UConn @ #2 Niagara
#10 AIC @ #1 Air Force

Well, I guess AIC lost in OT. But if RU doesn't get swept, I'll be amazed, because AIC gave RMU's next opponent a blueprint on how to beat them in game 1 and 2.

Nice comeback by AIC, too bad they couldn't hold them off in OT.

Hope that RMU plays as terribly as they did for those 2 games?

Don't get me wrong, AIC played hard all weekend, but they didn't do anything "special".

The only blueprint from this weekend is to throw pucks at the net because Brooks seems to have lost his confidence at this point.

Re: Atlantic Hockey playoffs

Well........

Somebody thought highly of RMU's play this weekend as they got 1 point in the latest poll.

AFA moved up 1 spot.

Re: Atlantic Hockey playoffs

Bentley is the only team that really scares me (after taking 3 points here). Their defense is solid--they could give RIT fits if the Tigers don't find their scoring touch.

Komm stops 46 of 47 shots. The team with the hottest goalie could win the league.

Re: Atlantic Hockey playoffs

Tough win for Air Force tonight. Scrappy game that came down to the wire. Not sure why, but UCONN left the ice without shaking hands...even some of the UCONN fans were stunned.

He was good, but it was probably the weakest, least dominating 47 shot performance any of us have seen in a while. Don't let the stats fool you. RIT was terrible and deserved to lose 4-1, (even though 2 goals were empty-betters)

Don't they usually save the handshakes until the series is over in playoffs?

Re: Atlantic Hockey playoffs

I thought so, too. I wasn't really that surprised. It's not like they were leaving without saying goodbye.
