Arizona State Moving To D1

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

These corporation's fingerprints are everywhere in this town including on UNO's new arena.

So you're touting the hegemony of local big business as somehow a positive? Omaha: Our Oligarchy is Complete ... come visit us!

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

Uh. Yeah. You don't see fortune 500 or 1000 companies basing HQ in a **** hole. More corporations means more jobs and more money. It's why the Twin Cities has such a high standard of living relative to everything else between the coasts.

But I digress.

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

It isn't my hometown, but I have lived here since January of 1990, after living in Kansas City for 27 years and Chicago before that. It is a much nicer place to live than you might think. The amount of money that is here in a metro of 875,000 is unreal. That is because it is home to five Fortune 500 companies and another 5 that are in the Fortune 1000 and who those companies are. FWIW, it is much more like Chicago than it is Kansas City. If you saw my brand spanking new $189,000, 3 bedroom, 3 full bath with finished basement walk-out ranch, just shy of 3,000 square foot house, that I bought here in early 2007 I think you might be much more complimentary. Very inexpensive place to live. An amazing amount of house for the money.

Surprisingly lousy restaurant town, though. We hate the politics here, too. Omaha is a place people usually get promoted and sent away from and, not to, like I was.

Great, great hockey town. One of the more surprising single things I found out about it after moving here and I wasn't a hockey fan when I did.

GAH!!! HATE... I can't get much more than a hole in the wall for $300k

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

Brett Gruber, one of ASU's two commits for the 2016-2017 season was drafted second overall in the USHL Draft by the Green Bay Gamblers earlier this week.

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

My cousin moved to AZ from MN about 15 years ago. He did not get a college degree here...but picked up one last year from ASU. He's loves the school and is a big sports fan. I figured he'd be all over this...but seemed kinda uninterested. I lost that battle, but the war's not over.

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

Article with some new information about the team

Highlights:
ASU may play one game in Prescott at the Prescott Valley Event Center

Renovations to Oceanside will give it a capacity of 1,200 for next year.

ASU has future home-and-homes set up with Michigan State, Ohio State, and Penn State

In other news the recent rumblings for the arena are towards it being off-campus. Probably based off the success of the baseball team playing in Phoenix Municipal Stadium this season. This could be misleading though as the current location of Karsten Golf Course is technically off-campus and only a few true on-campus locations would be feasible.

Instead of just playing Yale at home ASU will be holding a tournament with Yale, Michigan Tech, and UConn

Mike Field, former AIC and Dubuque Fighting Saints coach was named as the Associate Head Coach recently as well.

With the current situation in Glendale any games that would be played in Gila River Arena are in question. I believe the only ones that would be considered there were the Desert Classic tournament games and the home game against the University of Arizona club team however.

I know it's become my group's long away trip of the trip. Looking forward to the Arizona warmth and getting to add a few teams to the "I've seen them in person" list!

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

I was of this opinion six months ago. Felt quite sure that there's no way ASU would end up in the B1G. Afterall, what does the B1G get out of it? Really not that much from my mind.

But Heppel, the big cheese in BTHC, changed my mind by suggesting that the B1G was actually woo'ing ASU:
"I think being in a conference with like institutions is important," Heppel said. "[Arizona State] is going to have to think about that from an institutional and sport perspective. The Big Ten and Pac-12 have a historic relationship."
I have no idea why Heppel works for the Bi6. You would think he has NaCHo cheese pumping through his veins. He talks the propaganda like a pro.

Re: Arizona State Moving To D1

Has the Pac 12 Network announced any plans to show some ASU games this year?

The Pac 12 Network has said that they want to televise ASU games but haven't released any specifics.

In Arena News, according to this article in the AZ Republic the arena will be built on campus in either the former fraternity row area just southeast of Wells Fargo or in one of the "athletics areas" in what is now Karsten Golf Course. It would be shared with some indoor Olympic sports likely wrestling, volleyball, and gymnastics..
