This is 100% accurate.

Re: AOC Rules!

If mookie doesn’t pay the mortgage, the bank (lender) takes ownership.

If PG&E file for bankruptcy to avoid their bills.... bond holders.....???

Re: AOC Rules!

2008 when the loses got posted, did anyone who earned bonuses on that crap in 2007? 2006? 2005? Etc return the cash???

Re: AOC Rules!

I'm not sure there's a practical application behind what people perceive she's arguing, but more importantly I'm not sure she's literally suggesting there be one. More so she's hoping to initiate a dialogue when it comes to laissez faire business transactions. It's worth exploring whether or not lenders should have skin in the game when knowingly financing business adventures that adversely put the public at risk.

So to back this line of thinking, AOC was also looking at what Wells Fargo says they believe in- https://www.wellsfargo.com/about/corporate-responsibility/

Specifically this https://www.wellsfargo.com/about/corporate-responsibility/environment/

When they fund a program that goes against this corporate goal, that's one problem. When they do nothing about it when the warned problems of leaks and direct harms to the environment results in no action, that's a worse problem.

So WF goes out and tells everyone they care, in theory, but in practice, they don't.

And for that, it's fair to call them out on it.

Re: AOC Rules!

She asked questions to which she knew the answers.... fvcking brilliant.

of course it is, when you make someone admit they are wrong.

Even more funny when everyone around you is grandstanding of what they are thinking- and for AOC, that means for both R's and D's- who all normally have statements before asking a question, and AOC just lets the answers that she knows are going to be said make the statements for her. Seems like politics 101 to me.

I may not agree with AOC on all of her goals, some I do, but I very much respect how she approaches hearings and asking questions.

Re: AOC Rules!

I'm not sure what to make of this take...financing something doesn't mean they should be liable does it?

Yeah, that’s a dumb take by AOC. If thy finance a mortgage and someone turns it into a meth lab, should they be liable? If they finance a car and it’s used in a heist, should by be responsible?

We use the oil, should we all not be liable for it’s cleanup?

No, the oil companies and their contractors should be liable.

Ah yes, if they knew in advance. The difference here is the pipeline is safer than other means of transport. So they’re funding the DD, not the drunk driver.

She’s now just being stupid. Yes, let’s just stop fossil fuels. Good luck with your utopian dream staring at the clouds while the rest of us deal with reality. 🙄 She’s being less responsible than the banks who fund these projects.

Re: AOC Rules!

Pipelines and oil companies have a long history of causing environmental damage so no, she's not being stupid, and that's why people were fighting it in the first place. And nobody said we're going to just "stop fossil fuels".

She never said that. What she is saying is the taxpayer shouldn't be paying for the eventual clean up. Why is this so difficult? Cause it's not. This form of Republican Socialism has been the standard in this country for decades and it needs to end.

And how do you propose we transport the oil?

No she isn't. She's threatening Wells Fargo for financing the project and saying they should be held responsible.
