AOC Rules!

I'd rather work. I fear the time I can't do the job I do. I honestly do. It is selfish, don't get me wrong, I'd be bored to death otherwise.

I can think of a lot of things I’d rather do than sit in my office. I definitely wouldn’t be bored if I didn’t have to work.

Re: AOC Rules!

Look back at what St Clown said. He gets it. If the poor pay a nickel, they bought it. It wasn't charity. It's the principle.
Now, to Ivanka, what is her definition of a handout?:

Welfare
Food stamps
College loan forgiveness
If you want to stretch it, stadiums for pro sports owners (they don't own stadium, but reap added profits)
etc

That's why I asked for clarification of her comments in the first place. What is her definition of a handout?

do you really not know what Ivanka gets as a handout? Seriously? People pretend that she's some great business person, ignoring that she was GIVEN a business to run- not that she built it from the ground up. Just like daddy- she didn't earn what she was given to start with. Then add in the tax breaks she gets, for many reasons that poor people can never take advantage of. I could go on.

YES, people want to work. I get that.

But our society has stigmatized being poor SO VERY MUCH that they feel guilty for being given something when they can't pay for it. You are illustrating that in spades. There are poor people who are harder workers and smarter than Ivanka, and will never be able to dig their way out of poverty. But because they are poor, they are made to feel guilty that people are trying to help them. yay.

Nobody felt guilty that trillions of dollars was just given to people who don't need it what so ever. Nobody feels guilty at all that UNEARNED income is taxed lower than earned income- which benefits the rich more than anyone else. Nobody feels guilty that a $100M estate can be passed on to people who have done nothing to deserve that other than having the right sperm being placed in the right uterus.

Whereas if you go to a food bank to donate something, if you manage to see people needing help, they are all looking at the ground, trying to hide behind their struggles...

Re: AOC Rules!

She was indeed given a business to run. Now, does *she* consider that a handout? That's what I'm getting at. I consider that a handout, I assume you consider that a handout.

Re: AOC Rules!

Not if one wants to comment on her opinion on handouts. Once her definition of handouts is clear, then we can opine on her statement.

I don't need her definition to comment on it and you know that. If she wanted to add context to her statement she would have.

Her father believes he built everything despite his father giving him everything. I’ll let you take a guess at what she thinks her business is.

Fred Trump was the only one who ever did anything.

I'd rather do what I love. Unfortunately this Cafe gig isn't monetized. Yet.

Why does it matter what she thinks is a handout?

She was given multi millions of dollars to start a business, and feels no guilt behind that.

A poor person apparently needs to pay for stuff given to them as they feel guilty for that.

Who cares what Ivanka thinks. She's out of touch with reality- or more likely- she's playing the game that Tom Sawyer did making people feel honored and gifted to work for someone. When the reality is that the someone is making money with your honorable work. You can see that attitude in spades right now- our economy is supposedly in the longest expansion ever, but people are afraid of their employers. We have a shortage of workers in fields all over the country, but wages are stagnant and the income of the middle class is suffering.

There's a pattern there. Wall St and business owners are happy and making money, workers are suffering and barely getting by.

Let's look live at her clarification:
