I read that we’ve had 45 mass killings since the Spa spree in Atlanta, and it just wowed me. So I started looking for more info. The linked article is from 2019.

By the end of 2019, there were 417 mass shootings in the U.S., according to data from the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which tracks every mass shooting in the country. Thirty-one of those shootings were mass murders.

GVA defines a mass shooting as any incident in which at least four people are shot, excluding the shooter. The group also tracks mass murders as defined by the FBI — incidents in which at least four people are killed. The FBI does not have a formal definition of a mass shooting.

In the end, 2019 had the highest number of mass shootings in any year since 2014, when the Gun Violence Archive started its count. It has surpassed the prior record of 382 mass shootings in 2016. The GVA reported 346 mass shootings in 2017 and 337 in 2018.

Five shot, 3 killed in a bar in Kenosha WI. I think many of these news organizations describe "mass shooting" as being any 4 or more people shot (other than the one pulling the trigger). Anymore when it is only 4 or 5 people being shot or even killed it barely moves the needle. My guess is that in 5 or 10 years it will take a Las Vegas style mass shooting where literally hundreds are shot and at least 50 or more killed to move the needle. Anymore I don't even think a mass shooting during a joint session of Congress and 60 or 70 representatives or senators being killed will change anything. There is a sickness in our country and I believe it has no cure.

Where are all these good guys with guns to come save the day?

According to one eye witness in Indianapolis, there was a good guy with a gun... and the bad guy with the gun shot and killed him. Don't know if this account was entirely accurate, but I saw the eye witness interviewed on CNN the morning following the shooting.

If a good guy with a gun shoots a bad guy with a gun before he kills a dozen people it doesn’t make the news.

If it’s true what happened in Indianapolis that person is a hero of the highest order and undoubtedly saved lives.
