A group that is interested in more guns- the companies that are making money on our horrible situation- bullet resistant back packs for school.

Yea, they are a thing.

How did we get here?

Hope they will focus more on detecting the gun carriers and preventing the incidents.

Re: Another Mass Shooting: It's Those Darn Video Games!

Richard Childress steps down from NRA, citing his want to focus on his family and racing empire.

If I were heading a sportsman group not affiliated with the NRA, I'd start talking to these people and work to create a new group where they get to the roots and push for: training classes, background checks, registration for licenses to operate firearms, smaller magazines, target/sports emphasis.

These are public people who "speak" and "relate" to flyover sportsmen and could swing them onto your side.

Get ahead of the obvious outcome (gun ban) and push the NRA out. Might even get some moderate Dems on board to take the stigma of "they're coming for your gunz!" away.

Guns don’t kill people
Guns held by people kill people

Re: Another Mass Shooting: It's Those Darn Video Games!

I saw an interview on one of the Twin Cities news channels (KARE, I think) about a week ago with a woman, I think from a major university, who is doing in depth studies of school shootings, the behaviors that lead to them, how schools are reacting and the preventative measures taken, etc...

She says schools are responding in a very ineffective way. The natural response is to increase security, hold "active shooter" drills, or do things like your link suggests. Her group suggests those would be natural and effective responses if the threat were from outside, but it's not. In a super large majority of the cases (like maybe 90%+) school shootings are carried out by students at that very school. Students who know, go through and are taught the security measures, the hiding places, the drills, etc...

Libraries are doing it too. In Cuyahoga County every one of the 28 locations of the County Library system is undertaking an extensive security survey, and part of the charge for the consulting firm conducting the surveys is how best to locate staff and service points to offer the best chance at surviving and escaping a mass shooting/violent intruder. New buildings in the Cleveland Public Library will be designed with those things in mind from the drawing board.

We spent years designing things for cars that helped survive accidents like better seat belts and other active and passive restraints, before things like adaptive speed control, anti-lock brakes and steering improvements came on board to help avoid the accidents in the first place. How long will it take before politicians realize that there are ways to actually avoid mass shootings so simply surviving or escaping them won't come up quite so often?

Re: Another Mass Shooting: It's Those Darn Video Games!

It is becoming apparent that SE Cupp is looking for any excuse to push away from the current incarnation of the Right on any and all issues. Unlike the airheads at Faux who prostitute their morals away she actually cares if she is branded by what the GOP has become. She doesnt even seem to take the same joy she used to prodding the left and trolling them. Her last appearance on Maher I am not sure she even said anything controversial which is odd cause you can tell she gets off on the Cali Liberals booing her.

Sadly, she is the exception not the rule. It boggles the mid no one else is doing it outside maybe Shep Smith and SOMETIMES Chris Wallace. No active conservative politico seems to have the balls to walk away anymore.

Cornellians rock. She used to be hot, too, before she aged out.

Cupp is still an opportunist, though. She has a brain so obviously she can no longer support the GOP, but she used that brain for a long time to excuse and whitewash a terrible force in American politics and culture. The Republican party has been a cancer since at the very latest 1994. That was when they went full bore white nationalist. Even before then, through Reagan and even Nixon, they were using disgusting and morally repellent rhetoric and tactics to force themselves into a position of power with the sole aim of enriching themselves and their donor class, at the financial and spiritual expense of our country.

The Republican brain has been hinkey since the 60s when they began to absorb the Dixiecrats. They have been warping America towards their inevitable fascist goals for fifty years. So Cupp doesn't get many cheers form me for finally figuring it out or having a pang of conscience. Every one of those as-sholes helped march them down the actual Road to Serfdom.
