Annoying Commercials 2: Searching for the MUTE button

I swear the commercials during the US Open are just troll jobs meant to show the normies the life they will never have. Aside from the car commercials...

Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection? Was that the inspiration for the Bored Apes of NFT infamy? A week on those boats starts at more money than I make in a year.
Emirates? Want a flight like you see in the ad? Hope you've got an extra $25-50,000 burning a hole in your pocket (on top of whatever expenses for your vacation). For a few hours in the air.
The Rolex ad just seems to be a series of photographs of the richest, most famous people they can find and the message is "These are all cooler than you can ever dream to be. Get back to work, peasant!"

Welcome to the after effects of the combination of a ban on tobacco advertising and the greed of the ultra wealthy slashing advertising budgets of traditional corporations. Sports has seen the loss of the usual sponsors over the last 30+ years so they’ve had to fill the void with whomever is willing to pay up, and nowadays that’s pretty much gambling, crypto, and other useless stuff targeted at the ultra wealthy.
 
Sports gambling is definitely not just targeted at the ultra-wealthy though. That's been an unethical-to-crooked industry for years. Another great way to steal from the serfs.

It lags behind how Vegas has shifted to the wealthy, but they will follow down that path eventually. A sports book would love to show a glamour shot of Drake putting his $203k action down just like how Aria did it with the shot of him playing Roulette...

The math works out the same for both entities in Vegas: One whale brings in just as much action as 100 Goobers.

True, but online it is just as easy to take the money from the poors. The app doesn't care how much money you have, it will take it anyway and it doesn't cost any extra. Whereas in Vegas, hotels are required to have front desk staff, cleaning crews, food etc etc etc. The casinos can forgo all that expense by just handling a relative few whales.

Growing up I had two auto dealer uncles/cousins in the extended family (one of whom is huge nationally), and I've hung around enough dealership showrooms to overhear sales managers advising their people, "That's our final offer - if they won't agree to XYZ, walk 'em." If you make it clear that you know the monthly payment game they like to play and that you want to know the exact terms of any loan, some shops will simmer down and play by your expectations, but others will still try to play games with you. Those are the shops you have to be willing to walk away from and go somewhere else where you'll be more respected.

We've been lucky enough to be able to pay cash for our last few cars.

But, they don't like that. I'll give them credit for being polite in this area, but they definitely continue pushing the car loans option. One time, the day I closed on the car, with the cashier's check on the desk, they tried one more time to sell the loan. All I kept doing was push the check closer to them everytime they laid a pitch on me. Eventually, he smiled, and picked up the check.

Macau is essentially all about the whales (they mostly come from Hong Kong and China). They don't give one iota about the common gambler/traveler.

Monte Carlo is probably like that, also.

Exactly. Way more overhead to pay for in Vegas, or even any local casino you might have with all the states that have legitimized gambling and sports betting in the last 25 years.

They very much hate full cash payments, it's practically a loss for them. Never been in that situation yet, but I'm told you never mention that you're paying cash until any haggling is done and the price in front of you is final. Of course, so many dealers are no-haggle nowadays, it may not matter so much anymore.

Yeah, I didn't really have much room to haggle. Plus, they ask you very early in the process, how are you paying for it. Obviously, I could say, I don't know yet.
