And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

I just want to see Batman fight the villain. The villains in Begins barely fought at all (Batman did beat up the Falcone Mob guys though) and the Joker/Two Face were not about to trade fists with him either. The missing piece has always been Batman fighting a true villain, and it seems we get that and more in this movie with Bane.

Give me a climatic fight (which seems to be the consensus) and I am happy :D

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

No one may be able to top the Joker as the #1 villain, but the story itself could top Dark Knight. There's a lot that is going on with what plot I've seen in the trailers. And it's Nolan. He's not shy about such things.

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

My only notable misgivings with The Dark Knight revolves around the nonsensical nature of the plot. The performances were excellent, the set pieces were fantastic and fluid enough to get past whatever editing quibbles a film school grad would've picked up on, and I was on board with the philosophical side of the film (if not the emotional side).

But every so often I do get a little hung up over how much scheming and plotting The Joker needed to actually pull off most of what he did. There are parts that were convoluted enough to mess with your suspension of disbelief.

That's the beauty of it. Far fetched? Sure. But this is chess, not checkers. This is studying your opponent. Mental warfare, not physical.

It isnt the mental warfare...it is that he had like no time from when he started showing up to his being able to have plans on top of plans with backup plans set for when the plans go awry. Not to mention he would have needed to rob every bank and rich person in Gotham and Metropolis just to pull it off.

Note: I ignore all that, it is no big deal because he is being chased by a dude dressed up as a bat...but that doesnt change the fact that it is ludicrous :D

I agree it is ludicrous. But you are still talking about human behavior, which is somewhat predictable. If the Joker was as deviantly brilliant as he's made out to be, this is a great story. I mean, you're along the lines of "The Usual Suspects" in societal thought.

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

The film is entertaining enough, and the philosophical core is solid enough, that it usually isn't worth dwelling on how absurd the plot of the Dark Knight is.

And yet... It's still there. Just as goofy and random as it was the first time you saw it.

Well the pluses so far outweigh the minuses so it is really not worth the time. Hell it could even be argued the absurdity of it all is what makes it work because everything else is so grounded in reality you need the ridiculous to remember you are watching a movie about a rich guy with mommy and daddy issues who fights crime at night without ever being caught or killed and his biggest nemesis is a clown with a knife, gun and explosive fetish :D

Oh lord...I am less than two hours away from the Bat!!

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

I'll be at the midnight showing tomorrow night at the Southdale IMAX. Can't wait.

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

Hoping to catch it on a first showing on Sunday or Saturday. I'm thinking Sunday will be the best bet.

Edit: nevermind. Booked a ticket for a 10:20am showing on Sunday.....for $6.25 (which INCLUDES the Fandango service fee). Win. Even got the seat that I generally look for, when I go to a movie. :)

Dammit, I now need to avoid this thread until I can join in on the fun.

I won't post spoilers and I don't care...this movie is the best of the series. No hyperbole...the only thing it didn't beat was Joker. Overall though this movie wins hands down :)

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

At least 14 dead at a theater shooting at the midnight showing in Aurora, CO. Breaking news live on NBC and other networks.

The shooter is in custody. He told police that he had explosives in his apartment and they were booby-trapped...SWAT team and a robot are searching now.

Eye witnesses report they originally thought it was part of the show until people around them started dying...the shooter was dressed as Bane...

Among the dead is reportedly Jessica Redfield (@JessicaRedfield) who covered the NHL for BustedCoverage.com
She was also at the Eaton Centre shooting in Toronto in June.

ETA: Her family has confirmed that she is among the dead. :(
