Amazing Race 18: Jetting off to the Big Easy without Cutting the Cord

Re: Amazing Race 18: Jetting off to the Big Easy without Cutting the Cord

Thought it was complete BS that all the other teams conspired to eliminate the Cowboys. Really? And then not U-turning anyone else...because we're nice people? But you already screwed the cowboys! F that!

Re: Amazing Race 18: Jetting off to the Big Easy without Cutting the Cord

The 'trotters had to u-turn the cowboys. They couldn't risk bad directions/taxi driver.

Re: Amazing Race 18: Jetting off to the Big Easy without Cutting the Cord

I liked the roadblock and detours tonight and thank god the Goth's are going home. Vixxen had the chance to leave Kent in that crevasse and she missed her chance. The stupid moron even had the audacity to blame her for misreading the clue when he was holding it. I hope that Zev and Justin live someplace warm because their snow shoveling skills leave a lot to be desired. Finale Next week

Kinda weird that in an entire episode they maybe moved a few miles. However, it was a great night. Knowing Kent won't be around anymore got me doing a fist pump. What a classless jerk, whining at her during the gnome thing and then blaming her for reading the clue wrong. And did anyone else just want to punch him in the mouth when he said "can you put my hood up, I can't reach it". Unreal. Anyways he's gone and the final four I envisaged is happening. Should be a great final episode.

I was actually really surprised that Zev and Justin didn't do better finding that body. I mean they seemed to locate it quickly, but digging it out seemed way more of a challenge than it should have been for them. I mean Gary and Mallory seemed to breeze through it. But the rescue was clearly the easier of the two choices.

Re: Amazing Race 18: Jetting off to the Big Easy without Cutting the Cord

I've said it before, but Vixen deserves him. She was all giddy about how they're going to cuddle, and even though they have some problems, they're best friends. He doesn't even go out of his way to show what a complete classless, whiny, fingerpointing loser he is, and she still picks him. I don't feel sorry for her. If that is what she wants in a "man," she can have him.

Re: Amazing Race 18: Jetting off to the Big Easy without Cutting the Cord

The chopper ride looked awesome. I lived in the Rhone River valley near there, and had helicopter insurance in case I got injured skiing. It was real cheap ($10 for the year back in '82-'83) versus the $50 grand or so a chopper ride would have cost. And since you sometimes have to go up to go down (resorts are on multiple peaks, so you may have some traversing to do to get out), riding in a sled may not even be a realistic option in the case of an accident.

Oh you're bang on here. I mean she hardly endeared herself to me with her constant breakdowns in the earlier part of the race. She got better as the show went on though, and proved to be twice the man that Kent is. When she said during the post race interview that she had the best team mate, I lost all respect I may have had for her, and it wasn't much.

In my previous post I said this was the final four I envisaged. That was a mistake, I thought the Cowboys would be in the FF and that the GT's would be out. Either way I'm happy for these last teams, cuz I won't be cheering against anybody and won't be disappointed no matter who wins.

Well put.

I was pretty annoyed that Jet and Cord were eliminated. They are one of my favorite teams of all time, up there with the hippies from 6-8 seasons ago. They took it all in stride, didn't whine, and had fun with it.

Reality TV World.com does interviews with eliminated teams. Here's Jet and Cord's.

Even though they were deep-sixed by other teams sharing information that they didn't get, they don't sound too annoyed by it.

Also, not to defend Kent, but during the dinosaur challenge in China he cracked a rib and sprained his ankle. which explains why she was pulling him around in a cart in Zermatt.

A four-team finale. Ought to be a doozie.

I always wondered about that too. Everyone said they were so threatened by the cowboys, but they never did all that well. I think they won maybe one leg and finished near the back of the pack every other time. What about that is so threatening?

Sorry but I have to disagree about the hippies. That was back when finishing last in a non elimination leg caused you to lose your packs and all your cash. (such a dumb idea I'm glad it only lasted 2-3 seasons.) When they finished last and lost everything, they hit the roof because the other teams did not feel sorry for them and give them money. That totally turned me against them right there... not that I was ever all that high on them to begin with... heh... high... funny, right? okay maybe not but the point still remains. :)

I'm bummed too about the cowboys. They were a fun team to watch, even though their relaxed nature probably contributed to their demise. They were always 'in' it, but perhaps not as serious a threat to win it.

Kent's injury explains some of his whining later on; I'm surprised they didn't show it on the race. That's usually the kind of drama they like. Although Kent whining all the time is its own form of drama, I guess.

I wish they could figure out a way to penalize/not allow helping to some degree. Hints are fine, but telling people the exact answer to the length of the border seemed lame. That could have really shaken up the race if multiple teams had to redo it. I don't know what they could do, but the status quo leaves a lot to be desired for me. I'd also like them to go back to making money a bigger issue; should/can we take a cab or not? etc., really made things interesting. Most of the "speed bumps" are rather lame, IMO.

I don't think the cowboys were relaxed at all. I think they were very intense, very focused on what needed to be done. They definitely struggled with a few things in their two seasons, but they proved time and time again that they could get a task done in a fraction of the time it was taking other teams.

I definitely agree with the second part. I just don't know how you legislate out helping other teams.

Re: Amazing Race 18: Jetting off to the Big Easy without Cutting the Cord

One of the reasons I like Amazing Race is that unlike Survivor it's not a popularity contest. You actually have to have some skill and wherewithal to be able to do well. Teams giving each other answers and helping them out makes it a popularity contest. There are camera crews following each team everywhere they go. It would be easy enough to determine if teams are helping each other and then assess penalty time at the finish of the leg. Not saying they should, just that that would be how you could govern it.

Re: Amazing Race 18: Jetting off to the Big Easy without Cutting the Cord

I've given Kent's claim of broken ribs some thought. Given Kent's propensity for whining and excuse-making, I don't think their after-the-fact claim is credible.

As for giving out answers, it's annoying and detracts from the Race. Jet and Cord got screwed by it twice this season, first in Sydney then again in Luxembourg.

My opinion is similar it just seems unfair that whether or not the other teams like you should determine whether you stay in or not. The exception would be the U-Turn which personally I don't like but it is in the game so if someone is U-turned I don't have an issue with it. Also if your own partner can't help you on a roadblock why should someone else's partner be able to help you. I also hate the challenges where they say the answer to the local judge and their are 1, 2, 3 teams right within earshot to hear the answer and whether it is right or wrong the other teams should have to stay out of earshot. As for the speed bumps I personally hated the take all their money and let them beg but the speed bumps have been pathetically weak the last one with Gary and Mallory took them what 5 minutes and they didn't have to travel for it it was right where the roadblock was.

Re: Amazing Race 18: Jetting off to the Big Easy without Cutting the Cord

Probably should have asked earlier in the week rather than a few hours before the show starts, but who's your pick to win?

I'm gonna go with a bit of a longshot and say Kisha and Jen. I think Zev and Justin are a strong team, but of the teams left the only one's that never seem to make a fatal mistake are K and J. Like I said before, I like all the remaining teams so I won't be disappointed whatever the result.

Re: Amazing Race 18: Jetting off to the Big Easy without Cutting the Cord

I really don't want Kisha and Jen to win...I'll be happy with anyone else.

But I want Gary and Mal.

Re: Amazing Race 18: Jetting off to the Big Easy without Cutting the Cord

Now there are 3 as Zev and Justin go bye bye in the 1st hour. Nice scenery this leg Zev and justin done in by a tough roadblock, well for people with "white boy rhythm" and a bad cab driver. I might have been tempted to sell bikini's on the beach as well but the bar tending detour was the smart choice.

Not a smart move by the Trotters to let the cabbie go. You are in an area where there isn't a lot of cab traffic so you pay the guy tell him to gety gas and come back a dicey proposition. If they don't pay him he would still be there.
