Amazing Race 17

Re: Amazing Race 17

Every year there is a boring team that is very effective. I'm calling Jill & Thomas as the winners. They don't fight, are fit, and don't make mistakes. I'm rooting for Brook & Claire, though.

I am rooting for either of the all female teams and probably like in past final episodes one of the teams will be out of it early and it will come down to the final challenge, cab ride and foot race between the other two.

Re: Amazing Race 17

Nat and Kat are the first female team winners. I was pretty sure that the Dr's had a really big lead to win at the end but they had to make it look good. Pretty uneventful finale liked the final detour though.

We need a computer. I got GPS That just cracked me up with a huge amount of taxi's available at the Rose Bowl Jill and Thomas picked the worst one.

Re: Amazing Race 17

Looks like they brought back quite a few people from this season for Unfinished business
Brook & Claire
Team Tatoo
Chad & Stephani
Gary & Mallory
Michael & Kevin
Team Glee

is that right? I am glad they are bringing back the cowboys.

Re: Amazing Race 17

1-2-3 finish in order of karma and worth to the universe. Very satisfying.

The "Unfinished Business" lineup is a kind of all-star lineup of annoying and/or insipid combos, plus the cowboys who will hopefully wipe the floor with them.

They at least are bringing back a couple of teams I like, Brook and Claire, the Cops, Flight Time & Big Easy and the Cowboys along with a bunch I dislike.

Re: Amazing Race 17

Hopefully the first challenge will include super easy questions like how much does 2+2 equal that the eejit pair from ?Yale? will miss and go home, followed the second week by "Team Tattoo" as she really needs to get rid of that guy and now I guess potential for $$$$s would delay any breakup until its over.

Re: Amazing Race 17

Cowboys were my favorite team in Amazing Race history. Really wanted them to win. Not looking forward to Team Tattoo and Team Deaf Kid/CrazyOverprotectiveMom being back on the show.

Liked the cops, Globetrotters, and I have a huge crush on Brooke. :) Tiny blond ladies with energy=win.

Re: Amazing Race 17

Very disappointing finale, IMO. No drama, no doubt leading to the end. The memory tests aren't a challenge for anyone anymore as they all know to take copious notes during the race. I also don't like challenges like the bungee swing where there is no possibility to gain an advantage by how fast or well you do it. Sans a heights freak-out, challenges like this just seem to be filler. As a whole, this race didn't seem overly physical which perhaps contributed to the success of the all-female teams, though I think both of the final all-female teams could have handled most tasks and match up well vs most past all-female teams. I'd also like to see less restrictions on flights/travel. More and more, this race is restricted artificially in order to keep it interesting but it has the opposite effect for me.

That said, I'm looking forward to the next seasons. It will be interesting to see if there is any tension between the basketball sisters and the deaf kid and his mom.

Not if they want the Trotters around for a while.

I was hoping the woman from Team Tattoo already had a restraining order ready to go. That guy and the Notre Dame guy are both classic abusers.

They should prevent you from using notes during the last leg of the race. Or remember the challenge in Oregon? I think it was Season 13, the one Nick and Starr won, with ALL of the clue boxes. Or the surfboard one. At least there's a little more to that.

And how, precisely, was it not a test of memory for the teams to remember who checked them in at each pitstop? Even knowing where they were (which appeared to be what was in both teams' notes), it looked like they had to actually remember the people. Now certainly, it helped a lot that they had the faces in front of them to choose from, but I still think it was not nearly as trivial as the criticisms I've seen (here and elsewhere) would have you think.

Re: Amazing Race 17

I agree the finale was kind of lame this year. Where were they supposed to make up time? If they all had the same level of cabbie, they could have all arrived simultaneously.

That makes no sense. How are teams expected to win? It was over when the Doctors arrived first to jump off the platform.

Re: Amazing Race 17

That's not exactly true. If the N&K and J&T situations had been reversed, things would have gotten very interesting.

I know that part of that was the level of the cabbie, but part of it was also the resourcefulness of the teams involved. Witness Brooke&Claire, who essentially took the cabbie's own connectivity out of it by going to a nearby hotel.

Too, N&K gave some time back on the Rose Bowl thing by not doing the roses correctly the first time.

I wonder if the people putting the show together didn't expect the pictures thing to be more of a stumbling block. It looked like both girl teams sailed through, though it's also hard to tell how much of that is editing.

Re: Amazing Race 17

I also wouldn't take the personalities out of it - if Jill & Thomas hadn't been so obnoxious to their cab driver (understand the frustration they felt, but providing internet is not part of a cab driver's service), they probably would have gotten more help from him plus as pointed out, they could have asked to go to a hotel, a FedEx Kinkos, etc. to get help and I'm sure the cab driver could have taken care of that asap. Note to anyone planning to try out in future - memorize the NYPL's help number - they could have come up with all three answers (though still surprised they were looking up the 3rd question).

Re: Amazing Race 17

My favorite team in Amazing Race history were the hippies from season 9 (BJ & Tyler).

Next iteration should be fun, it's interesting going into it knowing something about the team. Usually as the season progresses you learn if they are worth rooting for or not. Flight Time & Big Easy were close to my favorite team ever, but I was so mad at them that they gave up on that challenge, I think it was somewhere in Eastern Europe. I also liked the ASU frat boys, it was funny how they left their shoes in Kazakhstan once and had to buy more, leaving them with no money. I will be rooting for them as well, and Jet & Cord of course.

This season I was rooting for Not Jill & Thomas. I was leaning towards Brook & Claire because I really wanted to see what Brook would do if she won. She would have gone absolutely bonkers. But I agree it was a lackluster finale, they should go back to the two hour format. I think the final leg being "remember where you were" is a little stale and all the teams were expecting that and had taken notes throughout. A few years ago, Luke not knowing that was inexcusable. Didn't you watch the show before participating?

The general rule if you need anything while traveling is to go to a Western hotel, as Craig pointed out. It's that simple. It makes sense to spend 15 minutes getting it right than 2 hours flailing around for an Internet connection.

Re: Amazing Race 17

Yeah they gave up on the telephone challenge when one of the gay brothers backstabbed them and didn't give them the information.

Not thrilled to see the poker women back, hated them.

Bummer, I was looking forward to having Brook & Claire back.

No kidding, they brought some excitement. And you always wonder in what crazy way they're going to react to something. And they were always positive.

They were positive, and that was good. But "Brook and Claire Flair" got real old, real quick.
