All Time Allstar Team of College Players

Re: All Time Allstar Team of College Players

IIRC, they didn't start offering athletic scholarships until 1981. They did have six Canadians on the 1954 roster. I don't know if any were overaged.

well, I am sure they are overaged now.

Wasn't their coach Canadien too? Isn't that how he had a pipeline to such good players? I seem to recall hearing stories about how local townspeople put the players up in their homes as well...

Yes, he was.

Edit: Locals were still putting up players in their homes when I was at RPI.

Re: All Time Allstar Team of College Players

Gotta add Brian Rolston of Lake State. Can you name another player who scored the game winning goal in the NCCA Championship game and a few months later was wearing a Stanley Cup ring with the Devils?

Re: All Time Allstar Team of College Players

I wouldn't put Brian Gionta on the team. He had the same career as Brian Bonin basically, minus a Hobey and I dont think Bonin belongs on the list either.

Neal Broten scored the game winning goal of the 1979 national championship, then won the Gold Medal in the 1980 Olympics the next year. He was also the first Hobey Baker Award winner, the first American-born player to reach 100pts in an NHL season, and eventually won a Stanley Cup with the NJ Devils.

Re: All Time Allstar Team of College Players

Yes, he was.

Coach Harkness became a naturalized American in 1949. If he was a Canadian hockey coach then California had an Austrian governor, and Michigan had a Canadian governor.
I could really get this thread off topic by commenting upon the nationality of the current President, but I won't. ;) :D

Re: All Time Allstar Team of College Players

Neal Broten was my 4th forward but its close with Tkachuk and a few others. Broten didn't make my list because he was a centre and I don't think you can place him above Niewendyk.

Ned Harkness bombed in the NHL if I remember. Who's your coach? Badger Bob? GM....Lou Lamoriello?

Ralph, are you suggesting that Mark Emmert is not a U.S. citizen? This would certainly help explain his cruel treatment of UND. I suggest we get an 80-year-old professional politician seeking re-election to appoint an ad-hoc committee and send it to Fife, WA to examine Emmert's birth certificate (long form).
