All Time Allstar Team of College Players

Re: All Time Allstar Team of College Players

Considering that the all-time record for points in a season is 116, I'm going to guess no. :p:D:D

EDIT: According to Providence College's media guide (from 2008-2009)

hockeydb might be wrong then on some of those stats...perhaps confused with one of the other Wilsons that played for Providence.

they are
he is still the all time leading dman in ncaa history

i will though add dave emma in your honor

Mark Johnson was best F I ever saw in college, him and Kariya

Re: All Time Allstar Team of College Players

FWIW, neither Dryden nor Nieuwendyk played in the ECAC for four years. Dryden wasn't eligible as a freshman, and Nieuwendyk left after his junior season.
FYI: I didn't claim Nieuwendyk played for Cornell for four years - only three. Look and you will and see. If memory serves me Dryden played ECAC freshman college hockey when frosh were ineligible for varsity hockey. I'm pretty sure Dryden was recruited and I doubt he sat out his freshman year. Correct me if I'm wrong. If you consider the percentage of collegiate Hockey Hall of Fame members the "EZAC" still doesn't do that badly.

Seeing that there was no such thing as Hockey east etc, yes they did

Dryden did indeed play on Cornell's freshman team, but that wasn't the ECAC. There were no leagues for freshmen teams. I mentioned Nieuwendyk also because it wasn't clear which of the two you were stating played four years in the ECAC.

Times change, but if discussing All Star College Hockey Players (the past) and also using the Hockey Hall of Fame (also the past) as a criterion AND you compare eastern league players vs. central and western league players in the hall of fame the four named eastern league college all stars played a combined twelve years of college hockey, the two selected western league college all star players played a combined four years of college hockey. The current ECAC is still well represented by college all stars, no matter the opinion of current central/western college leagues, no matter what they call themselves.

Re: All Time Allstar Team of College Players

Using career hockey totals I would go as follows:

Oates
Hull
Kariya

Leetch
Chelios

Dryden

Re: All Time Allstar Team of College Players

I think you have to include John Mayasich on any list of best college players, unless you are measuring by success in the NHL.

He is considered by many to be the best American-born player of all time.

Nah! I see to recall reading that RPI got by him in 1954. :p

Re: All Time Allstar Team of College Players

That's a pretty good list. If we were looking at players based only on when they were in college, I would go with something like this...

FORWARDS:
John Mayasich
Brandon Morrison
Tony Hrkac
Brian Gionta
Red Berenson
Brian Cornell
Neal Broten
Paul Kariya
Tom Ross
Jim Montgomery
Dallas Gaume
Ben Cherski

DEFENSEMEN:
Keith Magnuson
Jordan Leopold
Matt Greene
Mark Fusco
Dan Lodboa
Mike Mottau

GOALIES:
Ken Dryden
Ryan Miller

Memory fades over the years, but I remember Brian Cornell as a d-man. Perhaps, Harry Cleverly or Ralph Baer could confirm.

it's a team sport, after all. Probably why he has only one olympic gold medal, and that lousy silver one, too. would you happen to know if RPI had hockey scholarships at the time?

IIRC, they didn't start offering athletic scholarships until 1981. They did have six Canadians on the 1954 roster. I don't know if any were overaged.
