Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

As Ralph Kramden would say, "One of these days, one of these days Old Pio. BANG! ZOOM!"

The best one of those was the time his mother in law was sitting at that crappy kitchen table going on about all the better matches Alice could have had. Ralph is pacing back and forth behind her, rage building. Finally, he sticks his face up close to the old bat, like a drill sergeant, and says: "You know, this could be the day."

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

With an eye toward the Denver-Western Michigan game....

In four regular season games versus Nebraska-Omaha the Mavericks' Josh Archibald scored 4 goals and 2 assists. Three of his goals were game winning goals and two those came in overtime games in Denver on consecutive nights. Given his having ridden roughshod over the Pioneers in the regular season it should surprise no one that Neb-O won three of four contests from Denver. In the recently concluded best-of-three opening round series of the NCHC tourney, Archibald was held scoreless. Denver won the series. Coincidence? I don't think so.

In the regular season series versus Western Michigan the Pioneers won three of four games. The Broncos scored eight goals in the four games. Chase Balisy scored four goals and had one assist. Shane Berschbach scored one goal and had four assists. Together the two players had a hand in scoring six of the Broncos' eight goals in the series. If the Pioneers are able to neutralize Balisy and Berschbach in much the same way they handled Archibald last weekend I like Denver's chance to win the game.

At this point in the season, I try to stay away from predictive analysis of any kind.

The Pioneers got a measure of redemption in Omaha, coming from behind with two solid outings to eliminate UNO. Wiping away going 1-3 against CC and Miami coming down the stretch. So we celebrate that. And the possibility, however slim, that they've still got a chance for 20 wins and a trip to the tournament.

All it takes is 2 wins this weekend.
