Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

The powers that be at any university, including ours, should be doing everything they can to improve the experience (and thus the attendance) at sporting events. If only from a P & L point of view. And the powers that be at DU chose to pander to a microscopic minority and sh*t can Boone. You can try to argue your way 'round that reality, but them's the facts. Of course DU students traditionally have other things to do on weekends, especially during ski season. But we're talking about a modest sized building here, not some giant football stadium. Students get the message about what's expected of them. Just as they did for a couple of decades when DU was the only DI school, with a college of music, that never played its fight song. And some of them will (and probably have) gotten the message about Boone, too. It's a matter of enthusiasm and expectations. We can do better is all I'm suggesting. And I would never describe school spirit as "unexciting and manufactured."

I don't disagree with anything in this post.

You know our friends in the athletic department will be doing everything in their power to drain the event of any excitement or intensity. For instance, we certainly wouldn't want to have the giant Boone in the stands. Jelly donut in the locker room of course, but no Boone in the stands. Our 3rd World students (most of whom wouldn't be caught dead at a sporting event) approve.

You usually just appear to be a foolish man. Today you seem like a racist. Pathetic.

Great day....DU loses and Old Pio continues to make a complete #$$ out of himself on a public forum. By the way, where did your Savior " DG-the fraud" disappear to?

You will never see more school spirit at Denver, than you're seeing right now. Fact is fact. Well; maybe, if the Avs, Nuggets, Broncos, Mammoth, Eagles, Cutthroats, Tigers, Falcons, Rams, Buffs, Rockies all closed up. And if the Rocky Mountains were flattened out, and take away Bandimere Speedway, and shut down the Home & Garden Show, The Stock Show, the Holiday Craft fair, drain Cherry Creek, Aurora and Chatfield Reservoirs; maybe call off the Parker Country Festival, shut down the Light Rail, do away with the Furry Scurry and Bolder Boulder..... and bulldoze every golf course....... then maybe, perhaps people would be hot for DU Hockey.

But, but, what about A Taste of Colorado, The People's Fair, the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and SNIAGRAB? :D

Well somebody's internalized all the excuses.

Meanwhile in hockey, I can't believe DU doesn't drop further than one spot to 23 in the Pairwise. CC was 53 going into the game.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

Compared to Team USA's performance today, the Pios did not look bad at all last night. :o

In post game Monty sounded disappointed and angry with the team. Yes he accepted responsibility for not getting them "up" to start the game. Best player-Sam Brittain. It's admirable Monty takes the blame, but as I recall he didn't play one shift against the tiggies.

>What about the Tri Cs? Where is the leadership by example? Can they motivate the team?

>>MASH line and Freshman line had more energy/impact and less talent than the top 2 lines. Effort does count.

>>>Did the Pios just assume the win?

All is not lost. St Cloud has "big" ice and DU won there.
Cliche warning
It's not the size of the ice, but the size of the heart that matters.

Yes. In Larkspur. It runs on weekends from aproximately late June thru all of July maybe one weekend in August. It's been in bizniz for twenty/twenty-five years.

Well, between preparing for that and the home and garden show, it's a wonder any DU students ever show up at an athletic event. I mean, it's a constant struggle to make those leotards fit just right.

At this point, in this totally forgettable season, Pairwise is analogous to bomb damage assessments--not good news under any circumstances.

Still more interesting than the conversation that was going on here...

I did some playing with the simulator on CHN the other day and there were ways (few, but possible) that we could have slipped in with an at-large bid. I would have thought we would have plummeted after a loss to a team ranked so low. I guess the emphasis on road wins and out of conference wins is helping DU in this situation (and hurting CC, who had only won at home until last night and only in conference).

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

At this point I hate to think what would happen should this team make the tournament somehow. St. Cloud and UND are the only really decent teams we've played. Not like our record is good against the lackluster rest.

We just got swept by 4 win CC. Ouch.

Even if DU played so far above their heads that their noses bled for a week to ten days, and won the NCHC tourney and the NCAA automatic bid that went with it, I'm not sure they'd qualify for the tourney. :D

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

A fitting end to an absolutely atrocious week of hockey. USA women lose in gut wrenching fashion to Canada. USA men lose to Canada. USA men **** in their pants in a blowout loss to Finland and go home with no medal. Pios get swept by a CC team that had a grand total of 4 victories coming into the weekend.

Am I sick in the head to be looking forward to baseball season starting and watching the Rockies??!!

Is this club performing about where we expected before the season started? Our expectations weren't high. Certainly those expectations were lowered after the horrific start. Then improved a bit with a lossless streak. Now we've dropped both ends of a series with a team that notwithstanding the eyewash about "starting to put it together" is not a good team. Are we back to where we were in October? A meh season? Not quite the beginning of the Third Golden Age--yet.
