Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

SBN College Hockey reviews the NCHC teams. Here's a snippet with an interesting fact.

Puck control is usually tipped to DU's side after each game, with much thanks to the talented centermen rostered. Quentin Shore is ranked 1st in the NCHC with 194 faceoff wins, Gabe Levin has won 60.1% of his battles at the center dot, and Matt Marcinew is sporting a record of 109-85.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

LOL. The game notes on DU's (worst in the history of the world web site) reports: ". . .the Pios posted a 3-3 win at home last Friday against Brown. "

The two DU SID's I've known personally (Bill Gullion and Bill Scharton) would probably not have allowed that to happen.
Don't think Bacher would have let that get by either.
But lines were up on Twitter a couple of hours before the game. Prefer the website, but it is progress.
:o to say.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

Let the record show Saint Cloud is 8-0-0 on the road thus far this season, has alowed a total of 14 goals in those eight games while allowing as many as three goals only twice in that stretch. Saint Cloud has scored a robust 37 goals in those fourteen games and has not been held to fewer than three goals in any of those fourteen games. Said in other words: Sam Brittain will need to be stellar this weekend even to give Denver a chance to earn a point.

Saint Cloud is now 9-0-0 on the road this season and has outscored its opponents 43-16 in those nine contests. That's a goal differential of 27 goals in nine contests, an average of three goals a game, exactly the margin by which the Huskies won last night. Friday's game began a stretch in which four of Denver next eight games matched them against the Huskies while another two games sees Denver playing NoDak. This is easily Denver's most challenging portion of the regular season schedule. While I am uncomfortable with Denver's chance to win any game in which Sam Brittain does not start, it might send the proverbial "message" to the team if Jim Montgfomery starts Evan Cowley tonight.

I also anticipate Brittain will get one night off next weekend in Duluth. After that I think Brittain will start every game until Denver either clinches home ice or loses it for the playoffs. My $.02.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

That's a really good, impressive team we played last night. They thoroughly outplayed DU in every aspect of the game. Not being as good as one of the two or three best teams extant is no crime. But how the Pioneers respond to this butt kicking is important. To me, it's not necessary to get points tonight (although God knows I'm hoping), I just want to see 'em scratching and clawing all night long.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

Remember when DU used to be the best team in the nation? After an uninspiring finish last night, let's hope Monty comes up with a better game plan for tonight's game.

Sounds like Texas Wrasslin' rules, except you forgot protect yourself at all times.;)

First Star: Quentin Shore (Denver)
Second Star: Matt Tabrum (Denver)
Third Star: Sam Brittain (Denver)

Q and Sam pretty much expected. Kudos to Matt. Good to see a Shore back in the stars.
Sam had the great game we've come to expect from him. Probably won't win the NCHC "Sammee" award because of Friday's fall from grace.;)

P.S. It is a lot more fun when the Pios win!

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

The win also snapped a four-game losing streak for the Pioneers vs. St. Cloud State – marking the Pioneers first victory in the series since Nov. 3, 2012. from denverpioneers.com
11/3/12 Denver wins 6-1

Losing Streak
1. 01/18/13 St Cloud 5-2
2. 01/19/13 St Cloud 5-1
3. 01/10/14 St Cloud 6-3

Streak over
01/11/14 Denver 5-2

Guess this is similar to a 3-3 win

And then there's:
LaLeggia launched a wrister from the blue line that beat St. Cloud’s Charlie Lindgren, who replaced Faragher following Denver’s fourth goal, on his glove side at 14:14 of the third.
Faragher turned away nine shots and allowed four goals before being replaced.
