Nice teaser last night on Monty's radio show. He's going to Vancouver over this 12 day break, on a recruiting trip. He seems fond of the BC kids. I hope he finds some talent up there. That's where Brittain came from.

Sam is from Calgary and played in the AJHL not BCHL. However, Monty has been getting lots of commitments from players north of the border. Also the hockey alums are a great source of potential players both in the U.S. and Canada.

Sorry to see Donovan go back to Bridgeport, but surely he will be back to NHL ice. Dono was a 4th round pick. DeHahn, who went to the Isles, was a 1st round pick the next year.

I have no first hand knowledge about Landon Smith, but reading between the lines...Landon initially scheduled to come to DU this season. Guessing at least a scholie for 50% or more of tuition, etc. Spent 2 years in the USHL and did not set the world on fire. (8-13-21 and 13-6-19 = 21-19-40 in a total of 104 games)
Would you anticipate that this year in the BCHL he would score 21-23-44 in 29 games?!?

A few factors that could cause confusion in Landon's arrival at DU:
  • Gwoz ousted and Monty comes on board. Different approach to game and type of player needed.
  • Murray graduates and Jussi goes pro. Sam is the only goalie at DU. Goalie has to become first priority.
  • Szmatula wants out of LOI to play for Montgomery. No release from Northeastern, drags on for 2-3 months. He goes to NU--14 games 5-12-17 +5 2nd in scoring on team.
  • Monty brings in Janssen, Romig and Marcinew
Obvious conjecture, we don't know what or when conversations/negotiations took place. Bottom line, the bridge has burned, and Landon won't be coming to DU

Off topic, but I was at the BC/Holy Crap game yesterday. BC looked terrible until the end. Johnny Gautrau (sp?) was really fun to watch!! Wow!!

Hey you won't believe this. Remember the supposed ticket squeeze DU was going to put on the UND fans? Require that they buy other games too? Well, 32 Degrees works with a die-hard Sioux fan, and that guy calls the Ritchie box office and wines...... and the the ticket person says, oh we will lift that as it gets closer....call us back in a few weeks, we'll take care of you If you only want one ticket, no problem! And they even took his email and phone #.....which is a GRAND FORKS cell #!
Nice ploy by DU to make us think they're on top of things. Atleast we know those games will be sellouts. Money talks!
