Your response puzzled me, since I, too, have extra. Turns out, the sponsored links as well as the slide-in ads are not USCHO, but some kind of irritating spyware on my computer, which I happened to notice for the first time while I was on USCHO. I downloaded some new software, and it threw in some annoying GD extras. The crappy part is, I got rid of the software I wanted, and it didn't get rid of the garbage. I am experiencing feelings of ambivalence about the internet just now.

I agree. The Cadet Ice Arena is one of the most intimate venues to watch college hockey. Called the DU ticket office last week. They said the game was sold out and they wouldn't be able get tickets. Now they have discount tickets. The DU ticket office seems to be a bit out of sorts this year. So tonight I'll be watching former DU kids play hockey at the Eagles game. Friday I'll be watching former DU kids play hockey at the Cutthroats game. And Saturday we'll see how Monty's boys do against former DU coach Frank Serratore's Air Force cadets at DU.

On a related military note, what happened to DU's joint effort with the Marine Corps with Toys for Tots? DU seems to have some sort of bring a toy program going on. But I can't tell who they are. Maybe it's just the local tv station. Maybe DU explains who they are on the new advertising ribbon but I try to ignore that as much as possible. Anyone know what the deal is?

Las Vegas Wranglers 5 Colorado Eagles 3. It was great to see DU kids on both rosters. You have to love Geoff Paukovich’s bio. He not only recognizes DU’s national championship teams but also recognizes former teammates now playing for the opposing team. The level of play was truly impressive. Certainly not Avalanche/NHL caliber but in the post-Gwozdecky era the quality of play in the ECHL is head and shoulders above college hockey in Colorado.

Let's take a look at this. We've had three of these suspensions, all dutifully reported in the media. Did we have no suspensions in the Gwoz era (Mr. Dora comes to mind) or did Gwoz just take a different approach to these matters, keeping them internal? Are we to conclude Gwoz was lax in enforcing team rules? Or that Monty is some sort of martinet? Or that Monty is determined to put his stamp on a team that somebody else recruited? At this point I can't answer those questions. And I seriously doubt it's a big problem. Just a difference in style. One conclusion: Monty's the boss, period.

I think it depends where you're looking for info about suspensions, too. There's supposedly an unofficial blog about DU somewhere, on which often times you'll see exploits about other teams' players getting into hot water - yet hardly a mention when it happens at DU. For example I remember a kid named Olzewski, who went out and got his freak on during a Wisconsin road trip, and that story basically had a gag order on it. So Gwozdecky certainly suspended people besides Dora. Montgomery just needs to word each suspension differently. "Not doing the right thing", to some, could very well mean that Arnold didn't hold the door open for a professor who had an armful of books. Just call it breaking a team rule and be done with it :D

Let's be fair here. The blog is by and for DU fans and doesn't hold itself out as journalism or "fair and balanced." It is decidedly neither. And when DG lists "bad boys," generally what they've done involves the police. So comparing the blog to the Denver Post or official DU media is inaccurate. In point of fact, I'd imagine the poobahs at DU would like for the blog and DG to go the way of Fizzies. He's been pounding them mercilessly about their authoritarian PC jihad against Boone. I don't think he'll be getting a lot of Christmas cards from the head shed.

Thinking back, Chris Knowlton was suspended at the beginning of the 2011-12 season and Jussi and Larkin Jacobson were suspended at the opening of the 2012-13. Four games each as I recall==violation of team rules and Jacobson's suspension went longer.
(Jussi's NCAA suspension was in 2011-12)

Maybe what we're talking about here is nothing more than short memories. 'Course my memory's still perfect. Or my name isn't Old. . uh Old. . .nevermind.

Generally positive, but too early to tell. The only things I have gleaned so far is that his coaching is VERY detail-oriented, that he's trying to set some behavior standards with one-game suspensions for 3 players so far, and his on-the-ice results have been decent. 2 losses in Alaska were probably the low point, but the team is riding a 4-game win streak including a sweep of the archrival, so I think DU fans are generally optimistic. It will be a while, I think, before we really see Monty's "full-pressure" system totally clicking. But I like the sound of it.

I think Monty presents himself well in interviews, etc., but Gwoz is an extremely tough act to follow in that respect.

ETA: And if they win, I will stand and applaud. It's always fun to watch a team that is as hard working as Air Force.

With Tyler Pham reportedly de-committing, any thoughts as to if we might see some USHL guys transfering/decommitting from thier colleges, to come here and play under Monty? I'm specifically talking about guys who played or played for Dubuque. Maybe that's not even possible under scholarship rules; I don't know - that's why I ask. But 2 years as a USHL champ coach - I would think some boys might be watching DU's season with interest, knowing Montgomery is here now ????

A few things are in play here.

1) All of the players under Monty who have d-committed from DU were all under verbal agreements to come to DU. They could de-commit on their own or the coaching staff could de-commit them. It is a two-way street. Don't assume that all of the players that have de-committed did so because they didn't want to come to DU.

2) The coaches have an unwritten rule that they stop recruiting a player once he has verbally committed to another school. Only after a player is de-committed will the other coaches approach them again; however, there is nothing to stop a verbally committed player from approaching another coach or school while under a verbal commitment to another school.

3) A player who signs an LOI has a binding contract with the school. No contact by other coaches or schools is permitted after a player signs one. A player can approach the school they have signed with to ask for their LOI to be rescinded only under special circumstances. The school has the choice to rescind it or not. If the player has his LOI rescinded he is free to pursue other schools and vice versa.

The overall take is that no coach will recruit a player who has verbally committed or signed an LOI. The would be basically committing coaching suicide if they did. If a player is de-committed or has their LOI rescinded they are free game once again. To specifically answer your question, the DU staff is not going to approach any Dubuque players who have committed or signed an LOI. If a player that is under those circumstances wants to come to DU they would have to de-commit or have their LOI rescinded. During the 2012-13 Dubuque season a player named Mike Szmatula signed an LOI with Northeastern. Over the summer he decided he wanted to come to DU and asked out of his LOI with Northeastern, They refused to rescind it and he is playing at Northeastern. In order to transfer from another D-1 school, a player would have to sit out a full year at DU before they would be eligible to play. Any high prospect player with draft aspirations is not going to do that. If they don't like the school they chose to attend, they would likely go play in the CHL in Canada where they would be immediately eligible, see Dakota Mermis who left DU last season.
