Re: All Things Denver XXXVI
We reminisced last year about the time (back in the olden days) when there was a huge fracas in the Broadmoor and some DU players went up into the stands to continue a discussion with CC fans (not a single one of whom had been over served, let me make clear). CC boycotted DU the following season which meant we had no games with the two tail end clubs (Minnesota being the other, of course).
Speaking of the Golden Phonies, in '68 the WCHA designated DU as one of two playoff sites.* That meant Minnesota had to come to Denver or forfeit. That set up one of the all time great a*skicking weekends. DU murdered the Gophers, scoring 16 goals in the two nights. When you lose the first game of a two game total goal series 9-zip, it's pretty much stick a fork in 'em time. Jimbo recalled in one of those games Minnesota's Jim Carter (a fullback on their FB team) went totally bonkers. Pulled the net up and tipped it over. Chased Tom Miller all over the ice. Tom said: "I just tapped him on the head. Don't know what his problem was." Sorry for the trip down memory lane, but man that was a great weekend.
*These playoff games were part of the 22 game winning streak that ended with a 4-0 shutout of ND in the championship game. Sure am glad DU didn't bring those guys on the ice for a curtain call last week.
I was there for all of that and it was classic. Last year DU swept CC in this early series with Friday night's game ending in the Springs with Jussi Olkinoura getting a gamer for fighting. Great stuff!!!!
