Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

I saw the LetsGoDU stuff about Matt Thomas after his hiring. He's our new AC, and I am curious to know what y'all think of him.

GFM <— sorry to get my UAH in your DU
Gfm, you have scooped Denver Pioneers.com and Mike Chambers of the Denver Post. Here's a link to the DU Website with more info. http://www.denverpioneers.com/ViewA...B_OEM_ID=18600&ATCLID=205185437&Q_SEASON=2013
Corbett coaching at AFA and Thomas attending Annapolis--conditioning, discipline and academics will probably be the basics for UAH.

BTW Younger brother, Andrew, is now playing for Orli Znojmo in Austria. Andrew won the graduate scholarship from the WCHA.
You'd have to say the Thomas family is right up their on the intelligence scale.

Congrats to Matty!!! Good pick by Corbett.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

But now our entire hockey office is lousy with DU guys. At least our ops guy is from Boston.

GFM <— thinks it's a good day when he can scoop a newspaper man

I am sure Gwoz gave Corbett and Thomas both glowing reviews when UAH was considering them. The Gwoz coaching tree keeps growing. :)

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Hello DU fans. I'm pleased to say that I'm moving up to the Denver area this fall and I'm looking forward to attending lots of your games. I may also check out the DU adult hockey leagues... so I'm all around pretty stoked.

Welcome aboard. Look for single game tickets to go on sale in September sometime. Season tickets are already available as well as group packages. The DU athletics website is www.denverpioneers.com.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

WJEC: Butcher paired with Carrick and Q centering McCarron and Cammarata--that line had 2 goals and 4 assists in Monday victory--for today's game.

Penalties thru 2 periods when all the goals were scored:
Sweden 4 USA 8

Chis Peters said Butcher had a few good moments in the 1st and 2nd.
"Will Butcher also had a pretty good game for the most part. He distributes very well, has good vision and I think he’s taking way fewer risks than he used to. It’s been a pleasant surprise."

Tomorrow USA vs Finland then Canada on Saturday. 1:00PM Eastern

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

When returning from a bicycle ride a few minutes ago, I noticed a car parked on the next block with DC plates "CC HCKY". Should I let the air out of his tires? ;)

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

To Ralph Baer: I always put a sheet of paper under the wipers when I see such a car saying CC Sucks.

When I see DU tags I wait quietly around the corner... sometimes for hours... :( When the owner returns to their vehicle I jump up and give them a wedgie while SCREAMING YOU CAN'T SPELL DUMB WITHOUT DU!!!

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Personal opiniom, not based om fact, think Gwoz would prefer a college post and he woud just let DU pay him to sit idle. BUT it can't hurt to have NHL experience.

Matt Carle didn't have a great year last season (the team did suck) and if Carle's play improves exponientally, that would certainly be a big feather in his cap.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Will Butcher — D — Though his defense is still coming along, Butcher’s puck-moving game is looking as good as ever in this camp. He’s strong on the power play and he reads the offensive zone really well. Butcher has good speed and his distribution is solid. He’s making better decisions with the puck and taking fewer unnecessary risks. I think he could carve a spot for himself as the team’s seventh defenseman, but he played top-pairing minutes today and looked just fine.

I think the players scratched today, with the exception of maybe Quentin Shore and possibly Stefan Matteau are virtual locks to make the team. That offered the staff a chance to get more evals on guys who needed it. I think we’ll see the players that had the best camp get rewarded with spots in the game against Canada, which should include many of the strongest candidates to make the final roster.
Chris Peters, United States of Hockey.

Personally, I think Q will be more like Drew than Nick. But in either case that's worth 40+ points this season.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Just got back from meet and greet. Nice event. Jim showed up and made his way through the crowd and made sure to talk to everyone. I didn't know anyone there but got to sit with a nice guy that turned out to be the team doctor from back in the early '70's and has been a season ticket holder forever. When Jim made his way over to us the ex-team doctor asked him about his recruiting philosophy (particularly being interested in his views on recruiting blue chip 1-2 year players vs. 4 year guys). Jim basically said that recruiting is all about balance and he's gonna recruit great guys from great families that will be great fits on the team. Some will be 1-2 year guys and some will be 4 year guys. Speaking of 4/5 year guys, Yellow Truck showed up at the event too.

All in all, it was a nice event and I left excited for the upcoming season and our new coach. Also, I could be wrong, but based on the 10 min conversation I don't foresee as much "Gwoz-speak" in the post game interviews with Jay.
