Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Trade rumors swirling that Paul Statsny could be headed to Buffalo for Ryan Miller. Both players will be UFAs at the end of this season. Avs have a plethora of centers and Miller sound like he won't re-sign with Sabres. Supposedly Roy loves Miller as a goalie. Keep tuned.

Fact: 77 is the highest number worn by a DU Hockey player--Ryan O'Leary in the '89-90 season.
He also wore #18 (90-91) and #12 ('91-"93).

Maybe he was a Red Grange fan.

Not a bad guy to emulate:

"In his 20-game college career, he ran for 3,362 yards, caught 14 passes for 253 yards and completed 40-of-82 passes for 575 yards. Of his 31 touchdowns, 16 were from at least 20 yards, with nine from more than 50 yards. He scored at least one touchdown in every game he played but one, a 1925 loss to Nebraska. He earned All-America recognition three consecutive years, and appeared on the October 5, 1925, cover of Time."

Yeah, he sucked. ;)

I was at Memorial Stadium in Champaign on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Red's monster performance against Michigan (4TDs in the first quarter, 5 total) in the official dedication game for the stadium. Anyway, Red was there. But before he was allowed to speak, every cheap sh*t Illinois politician within a 100 miles had to take a turn at the mic. You know, the Vermillion County agricultural extension guy and the Grundy County fire marshal, et al. The students eventually had enough of that bull crap and began chanting "We want Red," and hooted those clowns off the stage. The kids were smart enough to realize there was only one immortal there that day and they wanted to honor him.

It would be a good trade.

Fact: #32 has not been worn by a Pioneer hockey player.
Neither has 34 or 38.
