Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Yeah, what Unc said. I'm now a Pioneers fan....when can I fly out for a game? Never been to Denver, always wanted to. Best of luck.

Thanks. Come on out. Stay away from a bar called The Border. And don't fail to take a walk around of our magnificent campus.

Don't want to rain on Jim Montgomery's parade tomorrow. It's his day. He deserves a clean start and had nothing to do with Gwoz' dismissal. Still, it'll be interesting to see the media reaction. Whether Peg shows up and takes questions or not, the questions need to be answered and should be asked. And whoever takes those questions shouldn't be permitted to hide behind "it's a confidential personnel" matter without challenge. If DU's Grand PooBahs want to extend their middle fingers to DU fans, players and alumni and demonstrate to the world their arrogance by refusing to answer, then they should be made to do so out in the open. As I say, tomorrow is rightly Coach Montgomery's day. But he, and we, understand that something stinks here.

With Monty coming in as coach, I would not be surprised if you started seeing more players from New England and the Northeastern USA/Canada; that is where his knowledge of recruits is best. Obviously your assistants will be able to help out with the west as well, but JM can bring in some real high quality talent from the east.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Welcome aboard Coach Montgomery!

From his presser:

"I am honored to become the eighth head coach of the University of Denver's storied hockey program,” said Montgomery. “I look forward to building upon the tradition of excellence created over the past 60 years by Murray Armstrong, and continued through the decades with other outstanding coaches, most notably George Gwozdecky - all have been blessed with some incredibly talented student-athletes who have played at DU. The vision and leadership of Chancellor Coombe and Athletic Director Peg Bradley-Doppes for the University of Denver and its student-athletes has me excited about what we can achieve together."

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

I was grateful to learn how lucky we all are that PBD is the AD. I've seen a lot of media "fact sheets" in my day. But I don't recall the kind of blatant hagiography seen here. Not especially subtle or effective, you ask me.

It was also interesting that someone found it worth mentioning that she's now hired 14 of 17 coaches. I might be polishing my CV and linkedin profile if I'm one of the other three.

You know I never read those things, a bit way too much rah rah rah for me. But this one is horrid.

But sometimes you gotta spin what you gotta spin.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Hyphen started in March of 2005. Maybe she's the reason Denver hasn't been winning national championships... ;)
