Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

I was grateful to learn how lucky we all are that PBD is the AD. I've seen a lot of media "fact sheets" in my day. But I don't recall the kind of blatant hagiography seen here. Not especially subtle or effective, you ask me.
Thank you for hagiography.
I did look it up and it has nothing to do with the perjorative hag.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

I've taken a few minutes to watch the press conference introducing Jim Montgomery. Unless PBD made herself available for questions after the event or was cornered by intrepid local reporters and asked to explain the ratioanle/reasoning/reasons for Gwozdecky's dismissal, she will have "teflon-danced" her way out of this morass unscathed.

Me? Use a pejorative term? You cut me to the quick. However, if she keeps it up, PBD might be a candidate for the Ron Oyer lifetime achievement award.

Tweet from Seth Appert.

Scary stuff in Boston-watching @NGrahamer run Boston then bomb goes off 4 blocks away. All our hockey family is safe.

RPI AC Nolan Graham was running.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Terry Frei of the Devner Post got Peg to answer some questions about letting Gwoz go. Basically, it was mostly over his contract coupled with the lack of recent post season success. She also says resources are not being taken away from hockey to help b-ball or lax and that hockey will always be DU's #1 sport.

http://www.denverpost.com/frei/ci_23032712/frei-du-ad-says-george-gwozdeckys-contract-talks

Putting all that aside, here are my thoughts on Gwoz's future. Does he stay in the college game or make the move top the pros? He was looking for one last contract at DU and then intended on retiring. We all know he loves living in Denver. Given that it would make sense for him to take the Avs job which is likely to open up, make some big money for a couple of years and retire. He wouldn't have to move and he would make in one year what he probably made in 3 or 4 at DU. Just my own personal guess.

There are 4 D1 coaching jobs open: Maine, OSU, Connecticut and UAA. UAA is no consideration for him. OSU, while a B1G job, is a program that is an afterthought at the school. I don't think Gwoz wants to butt heads with an administration that doesn't care about the sport. While they might want to satisfy him financially, does he want to be associated with an administration which won't support him in improving and building the program. Connecticut is an interesting one in that they are entering Hockey East and have built-in rivals already from other sports. As a basketball centric school, are they willing to spend what it takes to make the team competitive in Hockey East. I could see him considering this if he wants to go through the whole re-building process. Maine is probably the most desirable job out there as it is the program with the most history and is also in Hockey East. Hockey is the #1 sport there but it is also located in one of the most remote rural locations of any D-1 hockey school. I guess this one would come down to does he want to live in Maine and can they satisfy his financial needs.

His other choice is to sit on the sidelines, get paid by DU and wait for other openings to happen in the future. With the shuffling of teams and leagues happening this coming season, will any high profile schools be seeking a new coach after one year in the new league set-ups? Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, BC??????

I have a feeling that he only takes a job this summer if the perfect scenario comes along. To me, Maine is the only open college job right now that MIGHT be that, and I don't think it is, although what the heck do I know about what's in Gwoz's head. This time next year, like you said, if any high profile jobs open up, I will be very curious about what happens.

Sorry Viz; but hopefully my Fort Worth Brahmas are going to put an end to either Miani and JP's season before long. (OK; First we have to get by Wichita :o )

Being a somewhat-new DU fan and seeing these former college guys who I watched in Denver, playing in the CHL is really cool. It wasn't always like that in the CHL; or even in the WPHL for that matter. It used to be total bush league; aging balding beer-gut Canadians and Michigan residents who were sick of the cold weather, who couldn't fit into the 9 to 5 world after their productive hockey days were well-expired. Guys who could actually earn more money working at Home Depot or UPS or waiting tables; but instead got paid to play hockey in the warm southern states like Texas, Mississippi and New Mexico, and got to live out the movie "Slapshot" for real.

That's hardly the case anymore. The CHL has made amazing strides

Ok 32, I lived in Fort Worth from age 3 to 10 so if the Btahmas win so be it.:)

Just read DU's release on Nick signing with the Kings. Listed 5 NHL players but forgot:
Patrick Wiercioch--Ottawa
Drew Shore--Florida
Beau Bennett--Pittsburgh/WBS
Joe Colborne--Toronto/Toronto

Need some fact checkers in the Press Department.

Maybe they could hire somebody from "RIT."

Thank you for hagiography.
I did look it up and it has nothing to do with the perjorative hag.

But yet, here, I find that it DOES!!

Good luck to the new Pio coach, hope this works in retrospect, but it doesn't change the fundamental truth, that The Hyphen is rather full of herself and somehow found herself far higher up the food chain that qualifications and results would allow.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Greetings from Morocco!! I'm in a small town 4 hours south of Marrakech called Agdz. It is currently 95 degree!!, just a little different than Maine! Speaking of Maine, if UMaine could get Gwoz, it would be my perfect scenario. Montgomery goes to DU, Gwoz goes to Maine?, this would ease the pain of losing Gwoz for me. (and, it's all about me) I'm sure you all know what a stud Montgomery was as a player. It seems like he knows how to coach too. I think he was a good catch!!
